I usually do. The question is how much can you put in without any running out. Usually a quart is fine.
 
You can also help fluid seep into the converter vanes better by picking it up and tilting it in a gyration type of movement to gain more initial fill qualities - also letting it set after filling can give it time to settle and allow room for more fluid.
As said above installing the converter quickly and skillfully helps - be cautious of the pump seal while seating the converter.
 
man what a pain in the rear end it was to drop tranny with transfer case by myself!!! I installed the new torque converter, I put one quart of fluid before installing. I got it all back up and in the truck! Just need to put torque converter bolts and the the top bolts for motor to tranny. I’m so glad I was able to do it myself, couple people I called to help never showed up but what can you do but do it yourself lol

I have always done things by myself.
Learned to count on myself.
I have one friend that will help me when he's in town.
 
Just make sure the torque converter is fully seated in the transmission and rotates freely while the bellhousing bolts are installed. Never draw the tranny to engine with the torque converter bound. It damages the pump, which either fails immediately or at some random time of its choosing.

Then measure the distance between the flexplate and converter. There is a spec (like 1/16-3/16 - look it up). If greater than that you need some special flat washers.
 
Question, so I finally got my truck ready to fire up but it’s been a month or 2 since it was broken in from machine shop. It’s got the flat tappet cam. Should I be worried about starting it since it’s been sitting for so long?
 
So I took my blazer to work today for its first drive since installing new engine and getting everything together, runs good but I need to fine tune the carb. I did install a Edelbrock carb. My question is if I adjust the air and fuel mixture screws in park is that sufficient enough or should I adjust while in drive with foot on the brake? I noticed the rpm’s fluctuate when in drive and stopped at a red light
 
Well I figured out the carb and truck is running like a champ getting smog down today! Now that ya running great got a new problem! Darn heater core is leaking ‍♂️ guess I’ll be changing that this Saturday
 
in video I saw your fan shroud was missing, do have one ? is it installed ? If not you probably want one installed before full summer hits.

Wtg on getting all that done. esp Ca smog. what were the numbers might be able to help dial it in a little better.

I know you enjoyed the 100 mile drive, but 3 mins at 2000 rpm is enough to get the cat hot :saweet:
