Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

I quit too. I have a wedding I have to pay for and every little bit helps.

Good deal man. Its starting to suck lol. All day at work I was like dang this sucks haha. But when I got out and I was hangin with the lady and doin stuff its not so bad. Its just the time Im by myself thats the worst.

Alright I got an update on the engine, I swear I had already put it on here...:doah:

Should be done this week from the machine shop, they build racecar engines so mine was a little low on the pecking order I guess... Lol, oh well. They are doing the heads, rebuilding, polishing the ports, the guy whos builiding it just has to assemble with new rings, gaskets, bearings, oil pump, flexplate, cam, crank, and slap the rebuilt heads on.
It had new pistons, but just needed bigger rings, the guy he got it from had it bored to the 408, but then lost interest in it, so pistons are new as well.

Oh and he is also gettin me a set of Stainless rocker rollers for another $100 or so bringin the grand total to just above $1000 for a complete rebuild, pretty dang good IMO lol. It doesnt come with intake, carb, or dist, but mine will work just dandy I think, along with my new water pump, new alternator, and Idk if he has any of the other pullys or not.
Getting pretty EXCITED!!!:woot::woot:

I know you are excited. I love putting motors in. I would give you a hand if you were closer.

Yah that would be sweet! Oh well. I got quite a few buddies lined up to help me, and my boss is letting me use his place with a 2 ton overhead hoist and a pit :woot:.
And the one buddy is a mechanic at a dealership in town and hes built a bunch of 700r4s and he said if I gave him a hand he could build my tranny for parts cost :woot::woot:. Hes a cool guy, he just wants to see this thing in action so hes willing to help. He also gave me those headers, and hes got a set of the aluminum edelbrock covers with the slots on the top. (my favorite).

Well I spent the afternoon at barnes and noble with the lady, she had homework, I went to the transportation aisle, they have a fantastic selection of mechanic books. I grabbed one one SBC rebuilds, Edelbrock/Carter Carbs, and 700R4s. Didnt end up reading that last one, my head hurt from the first two lol.

Im thinking that since my carb does work the way it is, though I know its way outa wack, I think when I swap motors I wont mess with building it untill after the break in stage, just so I dont mess something up with the carb and it not be able to start right. Im hoping its just these books that make the carbs seem so complicated haha.

But all in all a good day, I will be going back to that aisle soon lol.

Oh and I had a change of mind on the engine color lol, I was thinking it would be sweet to find a really dark metallic bluish purple to paint the block and heads with, I think it would really be a change of pace and something different, but I have no idea where to find a paint of that color in a spray bottle that can handle engine heat :dunno: Any thoughts???

Edit: In the words of JOE DIRT: PLUM CRAZY PURPLE!!!!

HAHA Will do lol, their will be lots of pics and lots of headaches I feel lol. And I was just wondering if anyone had used either of those 2 brands of paint and had any thoughts on them, I def like the look of the VHT lid, but i cant find anything actually painted with it.

One of my buddies painted his engine with VHT. Worked pretty well, still looks good after a year and a half.

Well thats good, I think ill take that as some winning info, even though your color blind lol. Just messin man.

What you guys think is the best exhaust size If I run Duals with an H-pipe up front somewhere? I feel duals will be ten times easier than messin with Y pipes going into one muffler which was my original plan, and whats the best narly non firecracker sounding muffler for a young guy who likes loud things, BUT NOT THAT FIRECRACKER shotty glasspack sound

All small bock Chevrolets (along with big blocks) should be painted orange.

I like Flowmaster for mufflers.

I agree 100%, I hate that barky sound. So if you are like me, you'll want some flowmasters. I think the best way to get a cheap exhaust is to get a Hooker or Dynomax dual 2 1/4" kit. It's mandrel bent, and you can get it for ~$150 for the whole pipe kit, plus the cost of whatever mufflers you buy. Just make sure you get the 4WD version, and for headers, not manifolds. The mufflers need to be 2 1/4" offset inlet, center outlet.

Like these...

If you want an H pipe you'll need another pipe, you can probably squeeze one right behind the t-case.

Ehhh not very good at bein like everyone else, I think I'll switch it up, cuz I'm the one that will be lookin at it lol. And what style flowmasters? 40s, 50s?

Well, that depends. The 50 series are a little quieter with less drone, they will also allow you to get into silver lake easier because of the noise laws. However, I have seen people get denied with both of them. Yet, the same person went right back in an hour later and they never even checked.

I went with the big block series, because they are the quietest. However, they were a lot of money and they are HUGE, so it is harder to mount them.

I know? No one runs them anymore and they get in the way sometimes when you are wheeling but how about supertraps? I love the way they sound plus you can make em louder or quieter

dueling
I'll see if I can get a video of my single 50 series 3" once the truck is back together. Should be within a couple weeks, since I have smog to take care of :)

Oh man I forgot about supertrapps, those would be easy cuz they just go on the end.... HMMMMM.

Ok I think my 3 Choices are between the Flomaster 40's, The Supertrapps, and The Pypes Performance Violator Mufflers that Chevy305 has which if you didnt hear his truck in that vid he's got (amazing BTW), he just posted a vid on his build thread, that may have just made me fall in love

Go to 1.10 and crank up the speakers lol. Its glorious.
