Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

No. Everyone laughed when we realized what it was. Rolled the car back over and he kept going.

It would have had to lay there for 3 months for me to get pictures.

Got the inside stripped down today, brett gave me his copy of bend tech ez he never used. So i got that all calibrated for his bender and 1.75 die.

I think you'll be really glad you went through the dash....especially in a couple years when this thing will be a dune race truck!
the second cage design looks great Adam...anxious to see it come together!
Are you tying into the frame as well?

Yes. I am tying to the frame. Polly bushings are already attached to the bottoms of the diy4x staked cage plates.

Gonna start bending tube today. Hope all my calculations were right for calibrating the software lol.

Is it possible to go through dash without removing the windshield?

Not with a vertical hoop. I tried. I made mine 2 inches longer on each end for cut offs. Had it in and out a couple of times to get it right.

If you do a horizontal halo and a pillar posts, maybe.

It will save a phenomenal amount of frustration taking the windshield out.

Which if you try it with it in your probably gonna try and take it out at midnight when your mad and we all know that's the best time to handle large pieces of glass

I would risk it and pull the window. If you Crack the window pulling it out or putting it in, you will be way less pissed than cracking it because you didn't pull it and you hit it with the drill or a piece of tube. They are pretty easy to do as long as you have the two special tools. The one is the lock strip tool and the other is just a plastic piece with a rounded edge.

I know you're a budget-minded kinda guy    ;)

but, windshields are dirt cheap... usually it's $200 or less.... why fight it? hard enough to do the welding with it out...

try to save it, if not, just call the local glass guy when done..

Take your time use dish soap to help lube it. Taking it out is the easy part. Getting it in is the hard part. Dave pulled a window from my old k5 in like 5 minutes by himself.

Ill prolly just try and pull it. I just know my A pillers have lots of rot, so now im gonna have to spend a day cutting, grinding, welding, bondoing, painting to get them halfway decent, cuz "might as well" right?

What are the tools needed. And I imagine Ill need a new seal? Or no? Mine looks fine. But idk if it'l get ruined.

Also bent some $hit today.

I then ripped out all of the crappy old trim, to reviel nice shiny paint underneath. Also gives me another 3/8" or so of room to tuck the tube up higher.

Tossed the rear seat in to get an idea of space.

Also I finally got a steering stabilizer. I actually only spent $20 on a shock :eek1:. Thats like a new record low for me :D

The old mount wouldnt work, so I cut it, flipped it around, shoved it to the u bolt and welded it in. Also welded the fancy bolt the kit came with to the tie rod. It was going to hit the dif cover it I made brackets on the back side.
