Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

and then cracked it when I got it home...doofus:doah:
I haven't had much luck putting them in by myself, definitely get help, if you break your old one trying to put it back in call a pro, the new one is there responsibility until its in.

:haha::haha::haha:

about the DOM vs HREW....a well known cage builder once told me, HREW will take a rollover....DOM will take a rollover many times.

Well with the b pillar Dom, hopefully that means I'm good for more than one lol.

Those springs work really well and have a ton of arch, you will like them. Just add some to the middle of the pack so you don't bend them because they're really soft. I bend 3 sets on my dodge. Your looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 14-15 inches of travel if I remember correctly.

Why add to the middle? Can't I just keep the overload in? Or your saying they bend out on the end?

Yes they are not as progressive as 52s because the leafs are spaced apart. You need to add some to bring the rate in a bit sooner to keep them from bending on the outer edges. If you had a full length leaf that would help a lot.. Just try to match what you have in front until it is too stiff or double up on the stock leafs and pull out the overload

You think just mix and match with my current 52s?

Yes I would, just clean them up and paint, Maybee take a grinder and smooth the edges also.

Maybe so. But we have the dunes so your point is irrelevant :D

We have plenty of interesting terrain up here, Southern Boy. :haha:
Still hoping to get down to your dunes sometime. But I have so many fun things to see up here that I'm not sure when I'll make time to go downstate... :dunno:

I just ordered a set of rear 57" Ford f-150 leaf springs. Coming soon, Deulings Ford Blazer.... Or Chevy Bronco...

Frazer? Like "Frasier fir?" Otherwise you're stuck with Chronco. :dunno:

Absolutely nothing wrong with HREW. Lots of people on the 'net tend to suffer from "Keeping up with the Kardashians" syndrome. I applaud you for keeping a level head and keeping your build and budget within context of your needs. Nice work.:waytogo:

I concur. Following a nicely-thought-out build is much funner than reading about yet another cookie-cutter 4x4. Too many folks just get caught up in mindless modifications and end up doing things just 'cause they read about them and don't wanna get behind the other trucks they see. You've done a great job setting up your purpose-built truck. :waytogo:

Thanks. I think alot of comments from this forum, come from 95% of people that do crawling.... So alot of it has nothing to do with me.

I just wanna go fast. Thats all there is to it.....

Then you are working on the wrong side of the floor.

I have the same problem. My trucks have never seen rocks, and I don't know whether they ever will. My front axles hardly ever get used. I'm content with my stock 130 horsepower diesel engines. And I misplaced most of the pictures from building Big Blue. So I have just about the most boring build threads on here. I read through threads and say "that's a nice idea," but it rarely is something that I would want to do to my own truck. So I just sit back and watch. I've learned a lot of fun things along the way, though.

That's what's makes for a good forum. Different strokes for different folks....

Adams statement is very true and more so on pirate.. Technically your in somewhat uncharted territory or undocumented territory. People really don't think a solid axle Chevy can go fast.. Everytime I hear that I show them a pic of wades k5 flying in the air.. And say so what about this one??.

10 years ago, Fox and King said straight axles won't work. Sway a Way was excited about the challenge. Then I drew up plans for an IFS 4wd truck. I was laughed at in the desert racing world. Who new?

It's nice to hear that, funny also considering that there is a lot of solid axles going pretty fast now.

I dunno solid axle trucks been going fast for quite a while. But for a pure fast truck. 2 wheel drive ridiculous shocks. Yah your gonna get stuck every now and again BUT when you can hit stuff at 80 mph it helps.

But hey I am just a crawler that wants to go fast

Adam, have you watched Kerts cage install videos? Might enlighten you to the actual install process up front.

Just an FYI, I did not mean to make that sound insulting....

I more meant I try and take everything with a grain of salt type of thing....

Nope, your an ass, K5's are only made to get banged off trees and climb rocks....

I love the dunes though. If my truck wasn't all banged up I think I would like to make it a nice dune cruiser.
