Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

TRUE THAT...I've actually started following this thread again since the fluff is gone away!

Adam, I wouldn't use STP on the cylinders, I dunk the rings in 5w30 oil, let em drain for a few minutes and then just a thin coat of auto trans fluid on the cylinder walls before dropping the slugs in. STP is too thick for that application IMO. The cam lobes need something really sticky, and cam lube is made just for that purpose, it will stick to the lobes and not drain off like oil will.

Too late now lol. Heads are on and torqued. I just put it on a rag and left a thin film on the walls.

Ok I picked up Mr Gasket #929G advance curve kit. The instructions are horrid lol.

Now i need to look back and piece together instructions from you guys.

Just pop off the cap and rotor, you will see the weights and springs under that. If the weights and bushings look exactly the same as the MSD units on there, you may only need the lighter springs. Remember, you can flip the center weight over to reduce the amount of mechanical advance. The only way to know which way is better is to install it and move it and see which way allows more travel. You just need to remove the springs and 2 little tiny e-clips to get the stuff off. Be sure you use the proper bushings to keep it from binding up over time.

Also, don't forget to install the vacuum advance limit plate at the correct location like I linked earlier.

You are right, I shouldn't of said the only way, but who needs one of those taking up space, you can do the same thing with a digital RPM/advance timing light and a hand operated vacuum pump. If you did it every day for a living I could understand that though. You do seem to do it more than I thought since you mention customers coming back later.

However, the next BBC I build I am probably going to convert to DIS, at that point the dizzy will only be used to drive the oil pump and send a cam signal and you can adjust the timing infinitely by pushing some buttons with no rotor phasing to worry about.

I like to think there is a good amount of tech and stuff worth looking over here. But there is a lot of bs in between. That's why I have a link to my Silverlakeforum.com thread on the first post. Its all pics. Very little traffic on that site. http://www.silverlakeforum.com/index.php/topic,20956.0.html

This winter/spring I really feel like I got a lot of work done. Complete overhall and redesign of rear suspension, complete regear front and rear, truss, cage etc. Mostly all stuff ive never done before.

yeah, the tech level definitely took a jump up lately, I think last year was just an abnormal level of jibba jabba without anything productive to show.

now its all bidness. and bidness is goooood.

That was the moment I realized I had done something right :D

You have done a great deal Adam...I'm envious in many ways...mostly that you have the time to do it!:pimp:
