I wish I could say I didn't see this coming.
I knew that @Mr.Clean rig would be awesome and that you would want to build something. It's just the natural progression of things.

I was going to udder something similar to Zim last night but I fell asleep. Build something odd or different.
I still vote for building a separate rig. 3 grand for all those parts isn't much.

I am surprised no one suggested daily Driving the blazer while the Sonic is being ls swapped and beamed....:rotfl:

Yes Nate and papa smurf have me thinking dirty thoughts as well. Looking at most of the 6100 trucks, the magic number seems to be 118-120 for wheelbase. I keep seeing S10's for 400 or so bucks. Would be easy to start from one of those.

I agree that the blazer wouldn't see any time, I think you sell it off at that point.
Or just have a back up rig, or camping rig, etc, etc.
 
I may be confused but is the goal just to do beams? Could you not get the travel and ride out of a link x coilover & bypass setup and be good to go? Keep the blazer and just redo the front suspsenion. Or do you just want to go beams?

This is a good idea. Set it up like Wade's K5. Then it remains a bit more universal with four wheel drive and can be used for crawling trails too.

Famous last words, I always over simplify stuff too. It will take you a lot longer than you think. Wheel the blazer while you start from scratch.

Is the rect tube for the beams? Hopefully not the chassis, round all the way. :waytogo:

I vote take it to the next level and use your tig skills to make a chromoly chassis.
 
What you have now is a good, multipurpose Blazer that can do a lot of things well. You could wheel all over Michigan and the country with that 4x4.

...or even DD it if the Sonic gets smushed again.

Build a separate go fast truck. If you build a dune jumping truck that is awesome at Silver Lake...what else can it do?

You'd also run the risk of doing what many on here have done...blow it apart and never finish it. When I was your age I spent all kinds of time and money on my trucks. Now a dozen years later I have LOTS more money than I did then...but not much time and lots more responsibilities. The truck dreams I still have just aren't really realistic anymore. You're not that far from the family part of your life.
 
Do you want easy or awesome? Yes rect frame is easier, and heavier, and not as nice. Most proffessional level chassis' don't start from a rect frame. If you build off of a stock frame that's fine, but starting from scratch I wouldn't use a single piece of rect tube. You have a plasma table, you can make all the tabs you need to mount stuff to the round tube.
 
I'll just leave blazer and do something else later.

Full build will just take a lot longer with the business and things. I'll see about collecting some parts in the mean time.

And brett is planning to copy the jd2 chassis table for his next build. I will help him build the table. Probably do it out of c channel instead of rectangular.
 
The blazer imho is not a go fast rig.

It is a well built multi use rig. In it's current state, add sliders and it will rock crawl just fine. It will cruise down the highway, it will overland, it will do lots of stuff.

Just use round tube.

Gather all the parts to beam and link the blazer then sell the old suspension and what not when swapping it to go fast
 
Rails are boring. Everybody has one.

Build a new rig. Your blazer was purpose built, and does its job extremely well. Don't tear it apart. The cost to step up to another rig will not be big at the end of the day.

Plus, you said it yourself. Your business is taking lots of time, this will ensure you don't rush a project and end up with an incomplete pile of parts. 2nd vehicle will all you to do it slow and correctly.
