Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

Haha ok ok. I think ive got a plan. Ill keep savin my money, over the winter ill rip the whole damm thing apart and start sanding and priming and all the body work. I can paint the whole thing for cost of paint in my bosses paint booth(which is BA) so that should keep me busy for a while and allow me to work on it and spend very little. Then when summer rolls around and im workin full time ill start slowly gathering parts here and there untill ive got enough for FRONT COILS AND LINKS AND NICE REAR SPRINGS WITH GOOD SHOCKS. Lol, no need for bigger motor eric, i like this one and i just want a rig that looks nice and performs well that i can truly be proud of, and coils and links in the front will just look killer :). So for now ill start the money saving process, and ima start tearin the interior of the truck apart tonight, heck maybe ill take the top off and the front clip and start sanding everything over break. :D itll get there guys, you just wait an see.

There is one single key to having a nice truck dude.

KEEP THE SAME TRUCK.

So you are well on the way.

Hmmmm so I have till summer to talk you into linking the back.

No problem :D

Haha im sure you will talk me into coils in the rear, but yah i dont ever want to get rid of this, i like it too much

Edit: Out of work now, headin to the barn to start some demo... Wonder how far this is gonna go.....

BTW what colors to paint, white, dark gray, or black. All glossy. All three are like a tie in my mind...

Haha its funny how you may budget a certain amount of money for a project and then in the end almost doubling it. You are about to embark on a badass project but remember a badass truck isn't everything. Besides shouldn't you be saving your money for school?

Already paid next semesters tuition :D i dont need it all right now, ill slowly buy parts i think so it wont be such a hard blow on the bank account at once.

AHHH yeah. Finally got some alone time with ma baby :D
All the bolts came out very nicely, and got seats and carpet out. It looks horrid at first but once I hit it with the wire wheel that flaky nasty rusty paint just flew off leaving a pretty good looking floor. Ive come to the conclusion my driver seat does not lean back because the floor is caved it, but because it must be bent from some heavy individual lol. Thats ok it actually is really comfy for my height.

Also started it and let it run for 45 min or so, started the van and ma quad too while i was down there. Gawd how i miss the sound of that 408 everyday, brings a tear to my eye lol :thumb:

On to da picss:D

Thats where I ran out of tools lol. All I had was that drill and lame wire wheel. Ill grab a grinder and wire wheel tommorow and really go to town :D. Only holes are along the doors in the "trench" and in those 2 corners. Cut em out weld in some steel, order some por15 and some of that bedliner casey ordered, should be lookin FLOSSY by next week sometime. :thumb:

Forgot some (dont make fun of my go kart steering wheel, I like it haha)

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you! Doing spray in liner? I did on mine, and I like it, its really low maintinance, and it looks good. But it doesnt dampen sound real well.

Nah, im gettin my argon tank soon (c25) for my hoby 140, should be easy to patch what little holes are there, then yah im doin spray in bed liner, the Liner Xtreeme stuff, then i think i will put some type of padding in and I have all brand new carpet that i scored for $50 a while ago, just dont have new door panels or the rear panels, but i wanna make my own rear panels, and ill just have to deal with the gray door panels and tan carpet for now

Thinkin for the rear panels of stretching some material over a thin wood or something... Maybe some material I can find idk yet, I would LOVE to do diamond plate or allumunim but that would be way too pricey. I may go for a confederate theme to match my hedliner lol.

O'reillies has some felt camo for like $15, probably would look BA. Never thought about using fabric on door panels....... Now ya got me thinkin the same, i painted mine, and my knife clip just scrapes it off evey time I JUMP (its a long ass drop) out. haha

Well I was talkin about the rear panel in the k5 not the door panels but now that i got you thinkin you got me thinking :D

Hahaha, funny how that works. I get to thinking all the time, and magically my bank account empties...... I think my trucks a magician!

Mines getting that way.. Oh well might as well spend ur money on something you enjoy right? Some people relieve stress by drinking, i do it by workin on my truck... Odd I know but it works for me lol.

This is true. **** I kill two birds with one stone, I drink and work on my truck!!!!hahahahahaha

Oh i shall be sure to let you know how glorious it is :D im so sick of flux core, and slag and wire brushes.

Got into it some more tonight, doesnt look like much but the wire wheel on my grinder sucks and this took a while, need a much tougher one. Looks The 2 corners are shot, I knew that and a good bit along the sides, driver side is better than pass, I know cuz I put the goofy patches in last year (all I had was a rivet gun lol). Only surprise rust spot was one up by the pedals

Had to call it a night, gonna grab a shop vac tommorow and a better wire wheel. Some of that paint takes too long to get through, and its gettin so dirty from all the grindin that i cant see through all the dust lol.

Seriously, thats nothing haha EFFF YOOUUUU

Hahaha, sorry man, if i was you and its way bad id just get some sheets of steel and cut the whole floor out. I think dk5 did that if im not mistaken. The center section is good, man i wish i had a better air compressor so i could just blast this whole thing, the passenger side is harder to wire wheel cuz its got that bumpy surface rust rexture where the driver side is pretty smooth. Anybody know of a good product that i can lay down on these areas where it will take way to long to get every bit of rust out with a wire wheel? Like some sort of rust killer or rust primer or is that stuff even worth my time as far as actually killing the rust? I figure if i can get the big stuff cut out and wire wheel the rest i could put a layer down of somthin before i primer. And idk how soon i will get that bedliner now as i didnt think about it being so cold out here, been upper 20s lower 30s... May have to just do a really good job sanding and primer it all up till spring, or if I acquire a heater.
