Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

A 1991 model will have all the 1987 updates in it. That is a good core.

Man, I don't know how I missed this. Adam I assumed the rust was really bad on your truck, but it looked good compared to what mine looked like. Nice job:waytogo: I'm going to try and find you on face book and pics of my rig tear down are on mine if interested.

My liner xtreeme kit should be here today, and classic parts emailed me yesterday and said they found an inner topper seal in kansas and it should be here today as well. Woo!

And also. iDidnt have enough por15 to do the whole tailpan, should i lay down some self etch primer first after a good scuff job on it then the bedliner, or just put it right down on the metal? Assuming the first choice

So i know this queation is way overkilled but i can never find an answer. Whats a good stall rating for a 700 lockup tc? I want something a little bit more (couple hundred rpms) than my stock one just for a little better take offs, but not a pain on the road and stupid expensive. What say ye fellers?

your not towing right?

If not, I would go around 1600 stall rated for a healthy small block or stock BB...the power output of the engine will change the stall range.

I would like to build a small trailer for my quad and someday maybe a very small 2 person camper but nothin bigger than that. So would that have decent driveability for city and highway driving as well?

well now you really need to consider final drive ratios, tire size, not only height but width as it affects resistance on the pavement.
you really don't want much slippage going on if your towing/hauling anything of much weight. That is why the 700/4L60's specifically say not to use OD when towing/hauling...it creates a lot of heat, and I believe they do not have a sufficient amount of pressure to hold OD under heavy load...

You really think hauling a 3-400 lb quad on a really tiny trailer would affect it much?? I mean it would be no different than havin a couple people in the blazer..... :dunno:

At the moment im running 3.73s on 32x11.5 tires.

In the future I will be running 4.10s and 33x12.5 tires. Hopefully this isnt tooo long in the future, as I already have the rear axle.

well, talk to the guy doing your trans....that's just my opinion. I'm sure your engine will make plenty of power, but I just don't feel good about towing with that trans, I've had too many failures with them (3). If you NEVER exceed 1000#, you'll be fine, but just realize that a higher stall convertor creates slippage under its stall point, and even past its stall point if at partial throttle....which creates heat....which kills a automajic trans.
Again, talk to your trans guy, he should be able to give you much better advice for your application than me, just be honest with yourself about its usage....

Alright thanks Dave ill ask him. Also Im buying a digital autometer tranny temp gauge from sweetk30 to mount on my dash, so ill be able to clearly watch the temp and tell when its warming up. :thumb:
