Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

He went to the Dunes at Silver Lake.

Hope the liner is dry.

My gawd, that is a tiny wheel! :haha:
Good eye... :D

Everybody gives me so much crap for my little steering wheel (it came with it when i bought it from the guy in Tenn lol) but I like it, you can turn so quickly with it and its saved my A$$ a few times dodging deer and sticky situations so I will keep it :thumb:

Heres some in bigger format :thumb:

The Ungreen sticker was a big hit!!! Had lots of comments from people and one guy hopped out of his truck in line to snag a pic of it!! I was proud!! lol

We also ended up having a mini thrash this weekend lol.

Took craigs truck down the road to test some stuff, came back with the broken th400 to np241 adapter, which when that snapped caused the d-shaft to be at a bad angle snapping the tailhousing, whipping the driveshaft around until it broke the rear yoke of the dshaft... Ugh. So we went on a mad hunt, found one in hopkins, they drove and got it while I bedlined the blazer. Came back swapped it in (got a cast in place of the crappy alluminum one)

Then this morning we took the dshaft out of a halfton along with the yoke which has the same splines as the 14sf, but in the process of removing the dshaft snapped a bolt inside the yoke. Drilled it out, then snapped a tap, then drilled it out (musta been a crappy china tap lol) and drilled it out and put a bolt through with a locknut on the back.

Our goal of leaving at 10 or 11 am turned into us leaving at 2:30 lol.

But after that it was successfull. The 383 definately has plenty of balls, and with the electric cutouts we installed it screams when you kick it down :woot:

I cant multi task worth a crap lol. I hate wheeling in my broncoII because i cant just drive but i gotta concentrate on driving and shifting, i dont like it. Now on a muscle car or something to drive on road only, heck yah i would

Haha. I guess it just seems natural to me to have a manual. I HATE automatics.

I'm jumping on this wagon:pimp: took the th350 out of mine after 2 summers and dropped the 465 in with hydro clutch. It's so much better now! The gear split in a 465 is great too.

I'm with ya on the auto adam:waytogo: 700's can be tough if done right

He'd get his @$$ handed to him at the sand drags with an SM465, that thing is too slow to shift, unlike a muncie or something in a street car.

Adam I think an 11" torque converter is a good compromise of driveability and performance in a truck, unless you plan on doing any significant towing, then go with a 12" minimum. Although I do occasional light towing (~3500 lbs) with my 10" converter, it does slip quite a bit, I keep it cool though with my giant cooler. But it is a little looser than I would prefer for a truck, it is a lot of fun on the dunes though!

Edit: After backreading some more I would still recommend a nice 11" lockup converter. And converters are important, don't cheap out on the converter Adam, you'll regret it. I'd call Hughes or another good converter shop, tell them what you want and they'll ship it out within a day or two.

Oops scratch that he said he looked into it morecand its a 2500 lockup 11" hughes, but said with my motor it would stall more like 2000.. I guess i will still try it lol

The only reason I have a built 700 in my k10 is because I go to the dunes. If I only crawled I'd run a stick.

yah Hughes says 2000-2500 rpm lockup its a very nice converter, I think Adam will like it

Plus I am such a nice guy Adam is getting a GREAT deal :D

I feel like i really need to get that 14bsf in before i put this converter and tranny in lol. That ten bolts not gonna be happy. So is the stall rating and the lockup the same? As in it will lock in OD between 2000-2500 rpms? Cuz that kinda blows lol

No it should drop about 800-900 rpms when lockup occurs, but shouldnt rely on the stall rating. Stall varies from motor to motor depending on the amount of torque your laying down. And yes, I'd give that 10B the AX soon before leaves you stranded. haha
