diesel issues and questions?-update: fuel tank leak

Dont have a test light but ill use my DMM.

I learned if you fail to unplug the glow plug wire before testing them,it'll read as "good" whether they are or not!..I guess the test lamp gets a ground through the glow plug wire somehow..so be sure to unplug them first!..

Ok so I have more focking issues now! I havent been able to test the glow plugs but I may have some time tonight to do that.
New issue: fuel leaking out of the tank! There is a damn crack in the tank at the front of it on the passenger tank. Can I use the tank on the drivers side in place (like literally move it to the pass side?) The drivers tank has no fill hose or cap or anything going to it. Or should I just find those pieces and get a junk yard tank for the pass side?

I would check the junkyards for a filler neck setup. Or get them new through LMC. If you have the drivers tank open and exposed it would be best to have it cleaned first. Many radiator shops can do this, they put them in a big vat and let them sit overnight to clean them. Rather than finding another pass. tank I would just have the same radiator shop clean it too, then weld up the crack. My local rad. shop charges $75 per tank to boil out, and the crack repair would run $25-50.

A brand new tank doesn't cost a whole lot. I have one that hasn't even had a full tank of fuel through it sitting in storage. Pass side too! I think I paid around $180 or so for a new stamped steel unit

you can actually get them for under a hundred delivered depending on your location. They are such a pain to get out and back in that I would just rather put in a new one than possibly have it leak again. But, you know what opinions are like.

I wanna say JCWhitney used to carry the poly tanks as well. With a skidplate that means it'll never rust out.

It's 3 states away but I think Big Ugly has a skid plate on it's tank.

hmmm mine doesnt look to have anything. ill have to make one or find a factory one i think.

so do you guys think that my hard starting issue is only a glow plug problem? because it will crank strong and not start unless i use a little bit of ether.

What he said. Your situation sounds very similar to Big Ugly's a few years ago (except I refused to use ether...da debil). New plugs and new batteries (my fault on the batteries) and it starts first strike every time.

That was last spring after it sat Nov-April or so. Started right up.

Well the tank is rusted. Gonna check the other side and see if I can use it. Should be able to order one next week along with glow plugs
