Flyin Rat Garage

I have A/C and heat in mine and it's amazing how much of a difference that makes. Being comfortable while working leads to a whole lot more getting done. :waytogo:

Ditto for being warm in a heated garage in the winter..
But it is sometimes a deterrent to getting work done too,if your inclined to sit by the wood stove or heater, rather than do your "fixin"..getting it too warm in the garage can hinder production ..

I find about 50-60 degrees is warm enough when your working--once you stop though, your tempted to crank up the thermostat or toss more wood in the stove..especially if you broke a sweat while working--getting sweaty then chilled, is a great way to start a nasty cold, flu,or bronchitis, pneumonia, and sore muscles--.more than once I've peeled off my sweat soaked sweatshirt and undershirt ,and hung them over the stove to dry, while I sat topless near the stove to dry off too..

Last of the concrete is in, this last pour was only a couple yards that included the bottom of the trench drain and the 10 x 20 slab to the side door
Total concrete of the project about 45 ydsimage.jpeg image.jpeg

My actual usable shop space between the two buildings is about 1300. I will keep the large stall in the old shop for dirty work, cutting, grinding, welding, dusty dirty stuff. That stall is 24x18...(432sq ft) The new barn will be 1/2 usable shop space @ 36x24....(864 sq ft) it will have the lift in one stall and the other bay has the drain in it for washing or whatever, and moveable workbench in between. The other half is just storage space.
All other garage sq ft (2492) is storage, vehicle parking, parts, tractors, ya know....all that other stuff that takes up floor space....this includes my tarp quanset hut and attic storage in the barn.
My house is 2150 sq ft not including the unfinished basement, so total garage/barn/shop to living space ratio is about 1.75:1

Kick ass!!! I'm at 1350 shop/ storage and 2800 for the house. Need to put in an addition... to the shop!

Can't have too much
If you do rent it out or get more stuff!

true that !

zimm has been to my shop and its roomy @ 1800 sqft but I am now looking for a 20-25ft pup trailer or moving truck box to set out back and have it as storage for all my shop tools . . . like engine hoist / engine stands / all the big bulky tools I don't use every day . . be kind of like a tool room .

Right Brett, so much of stuff that gets used just a little and takes up a lot of floor space!

I had my trusse's built with 2x6 stringers for that reason....not a lot of weight up there, but more than normal load roof load....I will be putting extra sheetmetal parts and other things I can carry up by hand, mostly big bulky but not heavy stuff that rarely gets looked at, but is taking up floor/shelf space now.

My dad built a fly wood platform into the floor of our old attic/ ceiling of the garage.
He could load shit on it, then hoist it up and it would be sitting on the floor of the attic ready to be moved around. It was very nifty.
