Fuel Pump Access hatch

Nice... you have measurements? How in from the tailgate

I can get you some measurements in the morning. It is centered side to side, I used a picture from earlier in this post to find the center of the sending unit, then took the dimensions from the hatch. I cut small and replaced the fuel pump. Then when I got the hatch today, I measured the size it was and just put it where I wanted it.
I have braided stainless lines from the tank to the fuel rails on my TPI and when I installed it I left a loop of lines on top of the tank. I can drop the tank without disconnecting lines, and now I can pull the sending unit from the top without disconnecting lines.

How often do these fuel pumps need changing?
My opinion, not very often but the quality of parts really is not what it use to be.
I had a new one last about a month, the current one in the Crawlabago is going on 2 years I think.

Here is my issue, I'm almost 60 and have been a heavy equipment/truck mechanic for almost 40 years. My body is wore out. If I need a pump replacement I'm doing it, I just can't bring myself to pay someone to do something like this and I'm to damn old to be draining and wrestling a tank in a parking lot/campground/trail.
I used the marine hatch shown earlier in this thread on the Crawlabago and it turned out great with zero fumes coming inside the camper.

Also time,... about 20 minutes max with a hatch versus however long it takes to drain/drop replace pump the conventional way.

Thats true, dropping a tank is a pain. I did one on a Grand Prix GTP and it had a factory door which was nice.

The one on my Blazer is a 10" square hole starting 10" from the tailgate, centered left to right. I have not done my suburbans yet but definitely will. Interested to see what you come up with for dimensions. I put an access hole in my '04 flatbed too, its the only way to go. So easy to change a pump after its been done.

Anyone know if the different size tanks have the pump in the same location?

I believe the length and width is the same, so pump should be placed the same. The increased capacity is from the depth but I could be wrong.
My Sub has the 37 gal tank.
If your not in a hurry I'll try and get measurements from my sub, when I get time to work on it.
Thanks,
I'm hoping to get the plow stuff off tomorrow, probably will not get a chance to mess with the tank/pump until next weekend.

We just cut an '89 suburban for a quick access panel. None of the pumps can be fully trusted these days.

10" wide centered left to right. Measured from rear of floor. It touches both underside reinforcement ribs.
Adding this quote here to make it easy to find in the future.
