gas gage fix

Well someone needs to post something up about the fix, there is alot of folks interested :D

I think this is like the old I know a guy who knows a friend who knows where to buy surplus jeeps new in the crate from WWII for $50.00 story.

I will believe that a fix exist when I see it printed. Till then I say the fix a gauge web site is the only one there is.

Has this made it to the tech section yet?

I'm in need of the secret document as well. Anyone ever get time to make it a sticky in the Tech section? Pleae let me know where the info can be found. Thanks!

today i decided to pull my tank after my pump came undone off the line and then i figured out why my gage always said empty ................cause the float had fell out in my tank.

all you gotta do is ground the wire coming from the tank, if the gauge moves, its ok, if it doesnt, either your gauge is bad or you have a bad connection between the gauge and tank. I had a dirty connection where it plugs into the gauge cluster.

K204dr,

Which wire do I ground. My gas guage pinned on full the other day and moves ever so slightly. I found one wire that was red, coming from the passenger tank which was loose, so I butt connected it temporarily, but it hasn't changed the guage. I need my tank guage, because I haven't gotten used to it's hunger for gasoline. Any help would be appreciated!

I too was having gage troubles so this saterday i figured i would find the problem. after completely removing the gage cluster i noticed the connector that plugs into the flex print from the clust was partially in. this was causing my gage to work until i turned on my lights then it dropped to zero. hope this helps some of you.

Update on my case: While replacing the fuel pump, I replaced the sending unit with a "good one" from a member here and have the exact same problem as before. Next step is the link Metrodps posted.

Really just bumping an informative thread.:wink1:

I wonder if we could get a group discount? Hey let me know how the stuff works and just what it is you do. I am running out of "working" gas gauges.

THis is wrong
If the gauge being tested reads at the high end of the scale (i.e. full for gas, 60psi for oil, etc.), the sending unit is at fault and must be replaced.
Mine was just a burnt wire at the headers.Twisted them together and now the gas guage works like a champ,Until i turn on the head lights and then all my gauges go to 0...LOL
But thats my fault, after replaceing a bulb it started that crap.I knocked a wire off somewhere,a ground Im betting.

my problem was a bad ground from the tank sending unit to the frame.replaced it and have had no problems for 5 yrs.
