GM resurrecting Hummer as an all-electric ‘super truck’ with 1,000 horsepower

The first VW Beetle prototypes designed by Ferdinand Porsche had electric motors at each wheel ,this was in the late 30's..
So it's not surprising VW is still experimenting with that design..

He decided to abandon that idea and went to a gas engine--the first designs were a radial engine, like many aircraft had at that time--a 5 cylinder one, that reportedly kept breaking crankshafts during test runs,it was then he invented the air cooled flat four "boxer" design..

Pricing
The technologies and performance will come at a cost though. Initial availability of the Hummer EV pickup next fall will start at $112,595, including destination charges, for a launch version called the “Edition 1.” A $99,995 version will be available a year later, followed by $89,995 and $79,995 models in the springs of 2023 and 2024, respectively.

WTF GM?

Wow :eek1:

Cool features, but no blue collar person is going to be able to afford that.

Why are you surprised? Hummer was always a premium brand name. No reason this one should be any different. So much for mainstream affordable electric trucks people can afford. Hopefully Rivian can get it right although their base is still around 60k. Almost seems like GM did this to impress folks more than expect them to actually sell.

Holy Cow, That's what we saw on Moab rim. The last section of the commercial. The team of guys shooting the commercial was crazy. This is Chris' pic :

So for 1 months payment I can buy 20,000 miles worth of gasoline. Wow, this technology is saving us.

Car mfg's always use the low sale units to experiment, luxury and niche.
If there is a problem it cost less to correct is there is only 20k units, compared to say a 1/2 ton pick up at 100k +
The politicos won't out law our gas burners, they will make life miserable for the folks that would like to sell gas. So gas will become a luxury item.
Methane burner anyone???

On an interesting note, the new electric hummer caused one of my good friends to lose part of one of his fingers. I work for a printing company, we were printing a new ad for the hummer. He went to clean a plate while it was moving to get the print quality better as he was trained to do 15 years ago. Took it right off at the first knuckle. The policy for cleaning plates while moving has now changed. I bet every time he sees a new hummer he will be reminded of this.

Too late guys, GM has sold out of the first year reservations.

Not a bad price when you consider the thing about the 1000HP AND 11,500 ftlbs of torque, all wheel steering, cameras everywhere. Not to mention the trick tailgate with party speakers. :woot:

Would be a lot of fun to drive something like that if one had the coin.

This guy calculates the real motor torque at about 1,000 ft-lb. Interesting to note that the front gear ratio is 13.3:1 and the rear ratio is 10.5:1, which is fine because they're driven by separate motors.

Until they make electric cars self sufficient
So you don’t have to plug em in I will stick to small block Chevy.

alternator on a wheel or on all 4 wheels
