Going to try to give ryoken a break by educating myself here,

nope, the 2K is fine for quite some time.. after a couple yrs it would oxidize and need a scuff and recoat..

see if you can get into a continuing ed class,i started out on saturday mornings now i go (painting class) tues/thursday nights and special topics friday mornings for my paint cert.i have a welding class 5 days a week in may 8-1pm.
you can get paint gun kits cheap enough $130-189 hvlp gun, primer gun and detail gun

just take your time.

Ok. couldn't remember if that topic was touched on or not. I'm guessing its due to the rattle can stuff not being catilized? Suppose I could just go ahead and buy the hvlp gun that i will need and spot prime using my little compressor?

Surprisingly the HVLP guns at harbor freight that you can pick up for around $25 do a really good job. They by no means match a truely professional HVLP gun. But they can lay down a really nice paint job.

I don't know how big you compressor is but I would recomend at least a 30 gallon tank.

I remember my dad having a pretty cheap gun for primers and a really nice gun for paints. He never mixed them. People have their owned prefered way of doing things and you can us a single gun for everything. That's just how I remember him doing it. I also Remember when they first came out with HVLP guns he hated them. I know he still has a few really nice old guns that he still prefers to use ocassionally.

I like the idea about doing the body work in parts using the 2K primer. I'm thinking now I would like to do this right but I'm considered about the time investment.

Ryoken, here is a question for you. Is it possible (aadvisable) To spray clear over one of these old paint jobs? I think my 77 would look good with just a fresh clear coat over it.

eh, there are various ways to do it, some better than others, but to be honest, none of them are advisable. sanding vs buffed, blenders, etc..... but initial results and longevity cannot be guaranteed.... it's ok in a blend area, but full panels and more becomes questionable..

yeah, and with your solids, you could get away with single stage... tho a bit of clear on top would help out the durability..

Do you think this compressor would be enough to paint with?
