Here's a trick to bleed the current from the shield, connect only one end. Thats tricky in application because you have to create a labrinth, without contact, at the open end.

Just went ahead and ran 2 o gauge wires from the battery to the motor, 1 + 1 -.Depending on details, yeah, it becomes its own ground circuit(?) I'm calling it a "ground loop" even though that may not be technically correct, since that is sort of how it behaves.
