GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

Whoo hoo!

I am getting so close I can taste it! I got the disk brake conversion swapped over to my new axle tonight and I got the old axle out. I'm going to try to get them installed tomorrow night. Now if ORD would just ship me my darn parts...

That was a joke!

So much for getting my axles in. I didn't realize I was going to have to rebuild my D44 and relocate the perches on the 14BFF. I haven't even looked at my blazer in a couple of weeks but now I've got the perches and some other goodies to inspire me. WHOOHOO!

Yea...more progress!

Well I got my rear axle perches moved out and my rear axle bolted up, and my u-joints in for my front axles. And I got my tires!!!:D:D:D 38.5x15x16

Well I got my knuckles swapped on for my crossover steering. New ball joints all around! New ujoints for the axles. New passenger side spindle due to misplaced hammer. Last weekend I got some help and put the front axle back in with 1" zero rates moved forward 1.5". Tonight I got the body back on with new poly body mounts and a 1" ORD body lift! Looks good so far.

List of what I still need to do -

- Order 2 new wheels.
- Finish crossover steering.
- Hook up everything.
- Get some stainless brake lines.
- Install 4 calipers and hook up brake lines.
- Make some bump stops.
- Fill fluids.
- Install bumpers.
- Install shocks on front and shocks and mount on rear.
- Interior is a whole project in itself.
- ETC!!!

I want to have it going by the end of next month. I will post some pics when I get some.

I got her started tonight! It sounds great and is actually very quiet! The timing was pretty close to being dead on for pulling the dizzy and reinstalling it a couple few months later. I was pretty worried because the guy that cut my wires didn't leave much room to adjust the timing! Drive shafts, brakes, fluids, bump stops, shocks and i'll be offroad in no time!

A little more work done.

I haven't been posting lately but I've got the front tires on and I have been working on some bump stops. I used a come-a-long and a chain to try to get an idea of how much flex I will have so I know where to put my bump stops. It looks to me like I will not need to cut any sheet metal.

Bump Stops

Here are the bump stops I made for the front. Primered Grey. I am going to bolt them to the frame and they should line up perfect. The back are not lined up so I am not sure what I am going to do yet.

Steering Shaft Installed

I went to my buddy's house and robbed his steering shaft off of his jeep cherokee. It was pretty easy to install but I have no idea if I did it correctly.

Not to be a whiney b**ch but is there any reason nobody seems to care about my build? Just wondering...

EDIT: Wow I sounded like a whiney btich that day!

been following since day one man. just never posted up.

looks real good. definitly inspiration for me
keep going

You might be suprised how much more it flexes and where the tires go when the turn and how much more needs to be cut. I have 37's on mine and I ended up cutting a bunch the day before the Bash after trying some flexing.

first off, the truck looks great, been following along and its really getting there. i do have one suggestion; you may want to rethink the location of your electric fuel pump. the ideal location is as close to the tank and as low as you can safely mount it, they are designed to push the fuel as opposed to pulling it. i went through 3 pumps back in the day before calling holley wondering if they were junk or if it was me, the tech explained how and where to mount it and i never had a problem again. good job on the truck!

Yeah I know about the fuel pump not pulling as well as pushing but that was pretty much as close as I could get it. Plus it is on a lower part of the frame rail and it is a fairly high dollar pump. I have it running to a pressure regulator with a return line going back to the tank so I think it should work ok. The only place I could have put it closer was on the outside frame rail or inbetween the tank and the frame and that would have been a PIA to change if it ever broke. Thanks for the suggestions and comments guys. And for the flex I am installing bump stops to keep the tire out of the fender but it looks like I am going to have to trim toward the front because when I turn it will hit. Thanks again guys!
