GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

Cool build, truck looks bada$$. Question for ya, your front axle is moved forward with the 52s as well as with a zero-rate? How much has the axle been moved forward? What style pitman arm are you using? Does it come in contact with the spring plate when the drivers side spring is compressed? thanks

Thank you!:D I moved the front axle forward 1.5" with the zero rate and how ever much with the spring swap but I am not sure how much. I use the pitman arm from ORD and it doesn't come anywhere close to the spring plate although my draglink does make a little contact on the passenger side spring.

A little more work done.

I did a little trimming tonight because my tires where hitting on the front of the front fenders and the rear of the rear fenders. I also took a little more slop out of the steering by adjusting the allen screw on the top of the steering box. I still have a little play in the steering shaft going into the steering box. Anybody know whats up with that? I also adjusted my draglink to get my steering wheel a little closer to center and to better align my TREs. My F-ing 208 likes to pop out of 2WD when I slow down and it happened today during a test drive. I had to drive 20mph about 3 miles back home screaming 3500rpm in 3rd gear:eek1:. When I pulled in the driveway it started running like chit so I popped the hood and found a plug wire had come off. I put it back on and decided to check the other to make sure they were tight. :haha::haha::haha: There was onle ONE out of eight :eek1::eek1::eek1: that was snapped on all of the way. No wonder my engine was hit and miss. Anyways I just took it out in my backyard and got it extra dirty again. I wonder if the local carwash will get pissed if I wash my rig there?

two of my buddies and i were banned from our local do it yourself car wash, but they just went under new ownership about a month ago, so come spring time ..GAME ON!!!

I think there is like 3 car washes in the closest town to me so I have a few to burn through. Then there is the next 4 towns. WHAAAHAHAHAHA!

I got to do some wheeling tonight. I built up the nerve to try some rocks. Nothing impressive to some of you but quite the challange to us Kansas boys. The rocks went pretty good and then we decided to hit some trails. As I was crossing a creek I looked over and said "hey you think we could make all the way down the creek?" We tried and I was wrong. My t'case crossmember got caught on a fallen tree and I was in wet sand so I buried myself real quick. About an hour of jacking around and wadding into 40* water that was "balls" deep we got it out but it is now only 2wd. The slip in the driveshaft didn't have enough engagment and the drive shaft came apart! It jacked up a couple of splines when it did so, so it looks like I will be getting a new front drive shaft. (This one is like a month old!) The pic of me getting stuck is kinda crappy because it was getting dark out. Enjoy...

Are you running your gas tank in the stock location? If so, does the axle ever come into contact with it?

Also, let me know if you ever come down to Kansas Rocks Park. I'm not too far from it and go there often.

Yeah gas tank is in the stock location but I don't think my axle will ever come close to hitting it. I think I may have smashed it tonight when I got pulled over the downed tree but I haven't looked yet. I'm inside trying to warm myself back up. Cold water take it out of quick. I just got my build done and I havn't ventured much outside my area. My 30 day tag expires in 2 days so I won't be going anywhere until someone trailers me to an inspection station. I would love to go down there and check it out though. Any more info?

www.ksrockspark.com is the website. The trails are a little tight for a full size in some spots due to trees, but nothing unbearable. I do know they have an event called Frost Bite in Feb. that you might consider coming down for. I havent been to it but I plan to go to this one. I've heard it's a lot of fun. I have almost the same axle set up as you and 36s and can do pretty good on the trails. I have a fair amount of pics I could send you of my blazer at the park if you wanted me to email them to you.

I got my front driveshaft fixed today. I told them to make the tube an inch longer and they did but they also installed a new type of stub shaft that is an inch longer as well so it bottoms out before my driveshaft does. I think it is going to be to long but I think I could cut an inch off of the stub shaft and it will be perfect. The guys were super cool about it and didn't charge me a thing!

Well I got some more work done. I blew out the short side axle shaft ujoint after getting stuck a while back and got it replaced with a new spicer joint. Since I had to pull it in the shop, I power washed it and since it was clean I decided to do a little work. I mounted my high lift jack and remoted the battery to the bed and installed a "storage" box in the bed to keep straps and tools etc.

what are the pros to relocating the battery like that?

For me it was a matter of necessity because I removed the support for my battery tray when I cut the fenders to fit my tires and my tray was starting to come loose. Another advantage is moving some weight from the front to the back to get a better balance between the weight on the front tires and the back tires. I am thinking about moving my radiator as well at some point but I am not sure I will have room with my current set up.

Well I did some more fender trimming, installed shocks all the way around and a new steering stabilizer. And.....I got a winch...WHOO HOO! It is a warn HS9500i. It came with a rollor fairlead, controller, and a new wire rope. Now I gotta look for a good winch mount to build into my bumper!

Nice

That truck is really coming along man, im not living in Kansas City anymore so no chances of hooking up, i moved back to Traverse City, Michigan. Colder than all gets out.

Man, that mud looks like fun. Nice truck, them tires and wheels look good on there. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming.

Winch mount started

So here it goes. After reading alot about winches, hidden mounts, etc. I finally got a winch and started on my hidden winch mount today. I took a piece of 8" I beam, cut it so it would drop inbetween the frame rails, trimmed the lower front piece off, cut the hole for the mount and did some more measuring. I also got the hole cut in the bumper for the fairlead.
