GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

I got my hood pins installed today. I also got all of my body mounts lined up with bolts/washers/nuts installed. I worked for hours today but I can't think of what else I did.

I see you finish up after dark like me as well. :doah:

I came upstairs, put the kids and wife to bed and went back down. My brother-in-law came over and helped. We got the starter and dizzy put in. I installed new springs in the dizzy but they may be to light of a spring, only time will tell. We also got all of the body mounts tight and did a bit of wiring. We are getting close to cage time which I am unsure of the best direction to go but I am sure I will figure it out.

Here are some pics of todays progress. I chopped the top and started the roll cage. I am going to move the B hoop up 4.5" because I don't like where it ended up.

Last night I worked on the cage some more and focked it all up. We also cut a piece of 1/4" plate and welded it to the bottom of my tranny pan for protection. I may add a drain plug on the back of it too.

Looks like it is time to steam clean that bitch.

You know I cleaned my last one up real nice and put a drain plug in it and painted it and it got dirty so I figured this one can just stay dirty. Bigger fish to fry, I screwed up my hoops on my cage so now I have to figure out the best way to fix the screw up.:doah:

He doesn't liek how far back the B pillar hoop is. Moving it forward 4.5" I believe is what he stated. Look a few posts back.

Yeah I read that part, that is as simple as just moving the B hoop. His post that I quoted sounded like he bent up a couple more hoops and they didn't come out right. Maybe I'm mistaken :dunno:

Is your tranny pan pretty vulnerable to getting hit? Can't imagine that 1/4" material dissipating heat very well.

What's the issue with the hoops?

Well I had to bend a new B hoop and when I did so I some how ended up 6.5" wider than the original B hoop. So now I am trying to figure the best way to make it fit. My options are I can cut it in the middle (think dome light area) and take out the extra 6.5" or I can bend a p-trap looking bend in the same spot. I don't know which would be stronger. I am going to make something up in paint real quick to show you what I mean.

I've got a pretty large tranny cooler and I just installed a temp guage so I think I will be ok. Since I flat bellyed the bottom the pan is out there screaming to get a rock through it.

Alright so the top right image would represent cutting out the middle. The bottom left would be if I bent a 90 into the middle. The green dots are where the seat belt mounts will be. The red lines are to show the two options that I see. The blue lines are a maybe? Give me all opinions and comments please! If I cut the section out of the middle then I will sleave it on the inside and put a very good weld but I am still unsure which will be stonger.:confused::confused:

I would cut out what you need, make an internal sleeve with the ends cut st 45 degrees, drill a few holes in the ends by where you cut to plug weld in too and make your V or X in the pillar.
