Guess that noise

Final verdict is everything looks good on their end. They tore everything down and all the bearings look fine. On the lift they can hear some noise that sounds like it’s coming from the tail shaft on the transfer case. They also said the pinion angle is bad and that might be some of it also so I’m having them install some shims to fix that issue. Pinion is pointing down some which with the thicker gear they probably overfilled it which was causing it to come out of the breather. So hopefully when I get back in the next 10 days it’ll be better.

Np208C. I checked fluid level and it was fine. Changed it just to be sure and still the same noise.

I think your TC is worn. Chain is stretched. Mine had the exact same kind of noise until I pulled the TC and rotated it by hand. Actually I still got it. I’ll post up a video and show you what I mean. It’ll be hard to tell because you can’t spin the TC with the shaft installed and in the truck.

Ya that sounds similar. I won’t be surprised if it is the t-case. Would just continue the theme of this truck. Touch one thing and find three other things that are broke that need to be fixed. Just odd it only makes the sound when easing off the throttle. Not while accelerating, not while completely off the throttle, just when slightly backing off. Guess accelerating or completely off throttle keeps enough tension on everything.

Haha yep. It won’t stop until you’ve replaced everything. I didn’t think it was my Tcase either until I did my sm465 swap and had it out. It’s really not hard to just bench press out and back in. Going back in took me 2 tries to get it clocked right. The 208’s are not heavy. Just careful when pulling it out the first time I almost broke my face lol

Its because its only when the harmonics travel up through the truck when the shaft is unloaded. When loaded the pinion will point up a tiny bit and lessen the effect to the driver.

Just talked to the shop and the shims helped a good bit they said. They also noticed a crack in the transmission mount that was previously welded. Whatever. I’m replacing the bushings this week anyways so I’ll look at that. Should be picking the truck up tomorrow.

crack in the trans/tc adapter?

Not sure. Gonna check it out tomorrow. If/when I find it, I’ll probably just grind it out and weld the snot out of it.

Noise is definitely better. Still there but only really above 50-55mph. They even went ahead and spaced the trans mount down about an inch to try and help. I need to start saving for a new drive shaft.

They weren’t lying about a busted mount though. I don’t know when this thing broke but it’s definitely been fixed before.

atleast its just the ear / foot broken .

and yes a C/V shaft will help a lot with vibes on the rear . most blazers in the 4" -up need a c/v shaft . some get away with out one but most need it .

i did a blazer up for a guy with 5" of total suspension lift and we did a C/V rear shaft and set the pinion angle for it . i had it up to 90mph and she was smooth . he cruised it for 250 miles on a trip each way no problems he reported in vibes .

when you get the C/V shaft pull the drop kit back out of the tcase . as it will be hurting your front end shaft angles .

If you’re putting in new drive shafts. Might as well manual swap it. You’ll be much happier with an sm465 than with a 700r4

I’m going to pull it out either tomorrow or Thursday and see how bad it is and decide if I’m going to grind it and weld it or just buy a new one. Judging by from what I see I’ll just buy a new one.

I had it up to 80 today and it was smooth. Engine puked some oil from the breather but it was also spinning 4000rpm haha.

I’ll do an nv4500 before an sm465 but I have no plans on swapping it currently. A manual would be a lot more fun to drive but I enjoy the auto on the rocks.

Transfer case adapter . You have a TALL style . NOT the short . That refers to the mount pad spacing distance .
