"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

Mini boatside huh .

Yeah I was contemplating replacing the rockers with my sliders, or maybe a little higher

On a side note welcome to page 3 :D

Came home today to my wife pointing this out to me :doah: Hopefully I can get it bent back close to original shape.

Got a little bit more work done on the sliders tonight.

Got the curved sections cut out.

Used some 3/16 plate. Just tacked and clamped the bottom then used a hammer and the clamp and worked my way up.

I welded two beads to bring the weld above the surface of the tube. The second one didnt come out that great looking..

Then I smoothed all the edges for a nice rounded transition.

Also got the pieces cut for the other side. Not much time on the week nights, but little at a time :wink1:

I dunno. Guessin a stump got it last weekend. Its got some wood stuck in there.

that curve you put on the sliders looks great! I've been really flip-flopping on deciding if I should bend up some tube and do the same to my sliders. I like the idea because of (1) it's intended function (2) the step would be nice, but I'm concerned about it being more of a hindrance than a help.

What do you think? Obviously you think it will be a good addition to your rig, but what swayed you to actually do it?

Thanks :D

I decided to do it for the two reasons you listed. Function and the step.

Everywhere up here is so tight I am hoping the extended portion will keep my midsection off the trees a little bit. I rarely ever hit my sliders on anything from the bottom.

I am planning on eventually bringing them up and replacing the rockers so that will move them outboard a little more than their current location. My doors are trashed, but I would like to replace them and /or run half doors and hopefully this mod will keep them off the stumps and trees.

I don't think they'll be a hinderance, but I was contemplating capping the gaps on the bottom in with some 1/8" but then they would hold a lot of mud and water on top. Not sure on that yet.

This is how my truck is from the last trip  No glass in my pass mirror or door anymore either..

can't see the pics right now, but i hear ya on going through doors! :D

As to plating in the steps - I have 2 thoughts. One idea is to plate over the top so that there's no "bucket" to fill up. Another option is to bust out your torch and cut some cool shapes like Kert did on his CC. That's the route I'd like to go - no twisted angles and no catching water/mud - or at least the mud would be easy to rinse out. :) I'll go find a pic of Kert's sliders.

looks like the pics of his sliders have been removed from his thread. Sorry! It was like post 348 or so - but I think when he changed the website, most of his linked pictures disappeared.

Yup. No it has been sitting for a week and no change it the tire pressure.

Pretty much finished up one side. I'm going to wait till they are tacked to the sliders to install the two brace pieces in between so they fit good and snug.

I think the step turned out pretty nice.

Steps look great! But i'd be worried about how slick diamond plate gets when wet. See how it goes, but you could always add some grip tape to it.

Ok so I am just about finished with my slider add on pieces. :D

I want to take my sliders off from where they are bolted to the body mounts, and the rocker panels out and replace them with the sliders.

Any tips, tricks, or pictures of how to do this?

Finished the other side tonight.

Hopefully cutting my rockers out and moving my sliders up along with the added width to them will prevent some of the damage to my doors..especially if I throw some nicer ones on...these ones are a little beat up after the last trip :haha::haha:
