"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

Im not a fan of Gorilla tape, Gorilla glue yes!

Looks great Brian, so I'm sure that will all slide in from the back of the truck? Just wondered with the drop in the floor pan from the passenger area to the front, are you going to sleeve it to maintain max headroom?

As a whole no its not even close to fitting. That's why the cage I bought is getting retrofitted. The A pillar bars and halo will go in by itself no problem though. I just had everything ratchet strapped together so I could dial in those notches and fully weld the fwd joints before the fwd section gets installed.

Once I drop the B pillar hoop in I can weld all those joints in the truck and it'll be all one piece as shown above.

With how much work you are doing to get that old cage to "retro" fit into yours, do you think it would have been better just to build it from scratch? You do have a bender and notcher...just wondering what you are thinking at this point is all

The thought has crossed my mind LOL

I think I will re-utilize more of the rear cage and not having to fab and notch the seat bridge and B hoop is worth the time saved. I picked the cage up cheap so no harm.

Yeah, I was thinking not having to even do the B-pillar was just one less step I guess

Yeah for sure, and that X brace and cross bar is a fair amount of work I don't mind skipping.

I also can't run my bender with the truck in the garage and the weather sucks here..It can be a challenge.

For some reason I was figuring on you welding it all outside of the truck, and thinking how awesome that would be!!!

I'm trying to minimize any inside the truck welding. I'm an amateur at best, and any weird upside down behind my back welds never turn out well.

This piece will go in first. It's all finish welded.

Little bit more done tonight.

Got the halo and spreader bars all welded up. Left the center windshield bars tacked so I can verify there is no interference with HVAC stuff. Still waiting on my dash box to arrive. Taking my time on those notches made welding much easier!

Cut some flanges out. I think I'm going to make the seat bridge removable with these. Not sure so they are just tacked for now.

Also set the bed floor back on.

Oh and tossed the A pillar floor plates in to feel like I'm getting closer. Gotta prime and paint the fwd tube work before it goes in still.

Tying in to the frame?

Yup the A pillar will tie in to the frame behind the front shackle and to the slider there. That's why I cut that body rib out on the last page.
B hoop will use the pre-existing frame tie in and a slider tie in.
I am shooting for at least 4 tie ins behind the B pillar hoop. The rear frame rails could use some stability with the bedsides cut off.

that's great, I'm tied into the body cage in 6 places, then the engine cage ties into the A pillars as well as the radiator support...Man its rock solid!

Thank you everyone! The progress is motivating for sure!

Have to go to the San Juan Islands for a wedding. Hopefully get started on fitting the dash, and working on the rockers Monday. Also have some small misc welding to do on the cage.
