Has anyone made a full frame

Why would you start in the middle?

Usually that's the flat spot and the origin. You can check square etc from the "center" of the frame table.

What Jek said.

Plus if you have deviation out of square it will stem from the center point and be 6ish ft away from origin rather than 12+. As we all know if something is out of square the further away you get from the origin of the mistake the worse it is. All frames are built within a tolerance so its not uncommon to be +/- 1/4 over the length of the frame.

Besides I cant imagine how you would start building a frame w/o the belly for a reference point for heights :dunno:

Matt Thorson of Thorson's Offroad built a custom boxed frame for a Cummins powered Chevy truck project a few years ago. He's got a Facebook page for his business so if you use Facebook look him up and talk to him.

Maybe we're not seeing the build of the frame from the same point of view.

What would not be square? You intend on building one frame rail at a time correct?

I guess you could do it that way, but if you build the belly first you have more points to measure off of. It could see myself doing it that way if the frame rails where flat, then you would only have to work with two dimensions. I just see it easier for me to measure of a square belly when the frame rails neck down and narrow. 1-2 degrees off could make me start over, and use more material. Its not the end of the world, but I see it being more efficient this way.

O. Not at all from my past experience doing it I would never do that. You would absolutely need a frame table with jigs and tie downs, and a LONG one at that to try and do it one rail at a time.

Finally got a pic of my nasty frame. In the center of the rails just behind the body mounts

Also I think it may have started to bend there. Good thing I can measure offof my dads k5

I know I have seen frame dimensions on this very website I will see if I can find em

Personally I'd build one rail at a time with it lying on its side. With a good diagram it'd be very easy. "X" inches and "x" degrees gives you your different heights. I'd do both rails flat and then put them together with temp crossmbers. Now you square up and take care of bringing the front narrower.

Called my steel place. Two 24foot sticks of 2x6x.180DOM for 350. Considering a boxing kit is 250 ish shipped I really think I am going to go this route. Then I will have a nice clean square frame to work with. So with some 2x4x.180 and some 3/16's plate for fish plates and I could probably have it done for under 500. Without spending hours sandblasting and repairing.

What are you doing sitting at your computer still?
