Help, 6 mpg!!! Why!!!!!?????

I learned ALONG time ago to never ASSUME anything. When you assume it makes an ass out of you and me. :thumb:

How do you know you're doing 2000 rpm's at 60 mph? Did you use a GPS or your speedo? If using your speedo it is not correct because of the tire size change.

Didnt get to the gear ratio last night. Going to get a new topper for it today but the trailer was wedged behind my grandpas dumptruck and a tree. Hes in texas for the winter lol so we had to use some enginuity with the kubota. But spent too much time doing that plus putting my new muffler on. Will hopefully check this afternoon and letcha know. But good thing is that stupid cat is off. She doesnt backfire as much when you rev it a little in park. So that should help. Also feels more ballsy. :waytogo:

a choke lets the engine warm up under a rich condition.....do you need to step on the gas pedal or "pump"" it up on startup?

Yah but only in the cold lol where you would want a remote starter lol. Good point haha

Well? Gear ratio? Don't tell me I read through these 9 pages to have it drop off.:doah:

That's what I was thinking.

IMO, ignore all the wants and fun stuff, fix the needs first. Fuel consumption was your original topic. Figure out that problem, THEN have fun doing other stuff.

For example, my engine's done. I'm getting a new motor in 8 days. Not, my engine's done, so today I'm buying a set of 35s. (Well unless I was a baller, then ya, of course. :D)

getting to it lol. Did just buy a timing gun. Sticker on shroud says 4 deg BTDC, but i ended up doing 8, at 4 it was backfiring to much after letting the throttle off after a good rev. 8 sounded better, and is driving alot "zippier" i guess lol, and less backfires when lettin off the throttle. It was at like 15 deg BTDC. Gear ratio is coming lol. Oh and I also bought like 10 feet of vacuum line this morning with the time gun and replaced all of that so hopefully these put together will help.....:thumb:

Yah i know it was just such a good deal and i didnt wanna pass it up so i got it, plus i dont have the time or lifts to take an engine out so i gotta deal with what i got. I have the money but 55 hours a week between college and work, and having a girlfriend, and 2 other vehicles lol. Its hard to find time, and i hate working out in the 3 feet of snow gettin all wet and snowy lol.

Oh crap

OK guys I Finally went to test the GEAR RATIO!!!! I know you guys have been wanting to know lol. Well I may have just found it unless this method doesnt work quite right. I jacked up the rear end, put it in neutral, marked the drive shaft and tire. I spun the tire once and the drive shaft spun.... twice........ Um so i thought, maybe one tire has to be on the ground, so i let one down and tried it again. Same thing.... So my dad goes, well theirs your problem, you got 207's....... um darn. Well that explains no balls, and horrid city mileage, but why not awesome highway mileage??? Also explains why rpms dont really change much from 55-65, maybe 100-200 rpms. Is their something wrong with this method??? Am i forgetting something??? :doah:

If it's an open rear, you need to double that number...

Well its got limited slip but i think its still an open dif.. correct??? And it wasnt completely 2 turns it was a little under. If so that would make it closer to 3.73 right???

If it was 2 turns of de for almost a full turn of wheel, then you have 410.
If it wad almost 2 turns for a full turn of wheel then u have 373

Yup it was almost 2 turns. So 3.73's are the winner. Phew... lol i got scared for a bit about the 2.07 thing haha, then i would have needed all new gears for the dunes...

I had 273 in my 79 van. And it got great mileage about 15mpg.
I believe that the lowest offered in trucks.
In cars I have seen 2.23

well either way it would have sucked to have that low of gears for the dunes lol.

uuummm, I'm not sure but did you say you let one tire down and spun the other??? If thats the case and you did it by hand, you do not have a limited slip. You may have some sort of locker or open diff but not a limited slip. Just an observation:whistle:

Possibly, I just know that when one starts spinnin the other kicks in, but not right a way it takes a sec or 2. Idk if i got 3.73s, then they are most likely original and the code in the glove box has been right about everything else so far, and it says locking differential 3.73.

Roughly, if both wheels turn the same direction when you spin one, its limited slip.
Most of the time an open diff will have the tires turn in opposite directions.

If you have the G80 it will spin like an open diff untill it reaches about 15mph and then the governor kicks in and both turn same direction.
I had one and it happened when I was trying to turn the tires and it did it and freaked me out.
I had a limited slip in an older K5 and it's the clutch type, and it turned both same direction, and I couldn't turn one with the other on the ground.
I still have that axle, but wouldn't want it on a truck, maybe on a car.

maybe a gov loc:dunno: I've read about them here but dont know much about them. The limited slip in my monza would alow me to jack both tires up off the ground and I could still break all the lugs free without spinning the tires much when in park.

slow again^^
