Which cam?

so I called fitech tech help today .

seemed a bit info pushy on some but tad vauge on other . but he knew what he was saying .

58psi is there fuel pressure spec required . so with this I should be good with 96 c3500 fuel pump for vortec engine on tbi sender in tbi tank .

also I asked what safe cam range . he said should be no problem with min 8"vac and or 110 Lsa on cam . has done down to 4" vac with tunning over the self learn .

so my cam choice was close after talking with the comp cam guy . with my combo he said 1 bigger would give me good performance for the 454 . k11-413-8 xtream energy retro fit hydro roller kit . 1200-5200 rpm main power range .

Great info, especially the cam stuff. Where is the best place to check vacuum (qjet if it matters).

Which cam?
Part# 20110711

I wish I had gone with either that one or the next one (.600 lift). How do you like it? Good power?

I will tell you once it comes to life. Still working on getting transmission and other drivetrain stuff installed. I am running stock GM hydraulic roller lifters and was worried about going too high on lift so I stayed with the one I picked. With the AFR heads I am hoping for lots of smile inducing power.

so its getting closer to order time .

i see a few more installs of both fitech and sniper units . . .

i am still on the fence . . . tillting over to holley sniper side for more hp range and 2 fan control wire outputs . . .

whats everyones feedback now ?

They both are proven to work, choose your poison.

Buddy of mine just bought the 800hp 8 injector FiTech setup, I should have that installed in the next couple weeks.

The 2 fan control was my decision maker. That and I read a good review of a person that had switched from FiTech to Holley. Also read that the Sniper came with a better bracket selection in the box for throttle and trans.

called holley tech today :popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::angry1: almost ready to just hang up . . 30min and nothing to tell you how long on hold like most other tech line places .

but i did talk with them . this will NOT work with a tbi style dist . . i was just asking .

reason i called with tps / throttle position sensor . www.usshift.com wasnt sure what they were using yet . so i called holley and they said 1992 cadillac 4.9 tps sensor . that is the same round 3 pin plug that lots of others use . so that means this adaptor pig tail will work fast / easy / clean / simple . pigtail

so what to buy 1st ? ? ?

holley sniper ...... or ...... usshift trans controller . ????

thinking sniper to help lay out and plumb lines in mockup stage . . . but longer I wait gets me more reviews from others and possible updates . . ahh who knows.

but I did dig these two items out today to work with it .

ready to drop the big coin on the full roller cam retro fit kit ....

I'm hoping/assuming that all the aftermarket roller cam manufacturers are making them correctly by now, so that idling for extended periods of time is not discouraged.

I bought my SBC Comp roller retrofits years back, did not know until I got the box that they did not recommend letting it idle for prolonged periods of time. Why going with a factory long block, replete with roller cam, was an easy choice this time. Not to mention the cost of the retrofit cam/lifters at that time.

Are those the stainless rockers? Used to be Pro Magnums, now just magnums?

will have to ask about the long idle thing . . ..

and I think there the stainless steel . . .no rust on them in the box for almost 10 years with just a hair bit of oil on them . got them from a member here long time ago for a different truck . but there getting used now !

look just like these . http://www.compcams.com/information/products/rockerarms/promagnum.asp

I thought they quit selling them under that name, but I was wrong. I got the railed version (for Vortec heads) and that had to be 10-15 years back. Ran them on the engine, broke a rocker stud, wore that engine out, all still in great shape and thrown on the new motor.

Summit is weird. If you search the part numbers on their site, it may not come up. BUT if the stars align, and you google search, you'll find their discontinued items: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-1317-16 Those are what I bought, looks like that part has been replaced by the ultra pro magnum rockers. The pro magnums were every bit as expensive as the ultra pro's IIRC.

BTW, comp told me fairly recently those can be rebuilt if needed, $9.50/rocker. I didn't find anything excessively worn on mine. Maybe if I wanted to put 200,000 more miles on them I'd think about it, but as they were, I couldn't find a reason to rebuild any of them.

It's worth mentioning there is a 650hp FAST system that was just released for $899.

not good reviews on summit .
no real info on features like others post in there sale ad's
ah maybe they will get better . . .

I will try my sniper when it gets here.

would be cool on a side note to see a side by side dyno of a good tbi and sniper unit . . . only swap being the systems .
