Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

Will your route to KOH take you through Reno? :deal: I'd like to see that comp.

I-15 all the way down buddy, sorry.

Although I really want to run the rubicon or fordyce in my lifetime. Not sure if you guys will still be in Reno or not by the time I get to that goal but you may be

Hmm. I had thought that KOH was in northern California for some reason. Some of us have been talking about doing a September ride of the Rubicon.... :deal:

Nope get to Barstow then turn south, go till you think your lost, then go till you think your really lost, then your almost there.

Actually my first time to the hammers. Should be alot of fun.

Lemme know when you guys go Colby not sure if I can make it or not but if all the planets align and the sunspots are active and the moons of Jupiter are in apogee with the rings of Saturn I might be able to make it :D

Well if all that comes together for ya let's split the gas.:D

Thanks Ray.

I am with ya on the someday thing though. Horton is the culmination of about 10 years of making mistakes and doing a couple things wrong. Not wheeling alot cause it was broke and doing more work than I should have to trade for certain items. But with no money out of my pocket that was the only thing that would work for me at times

I really like where the truck is at right now. Needs links and such but I can wheel it like crazy now.

This dash mod is just fun stuff right now. Spent some time sitting in the seats last night figuring exactly what I want to do.

Still not totally sure, once I thought I had it figured I came up with something else.

We shall see.

If all works well (cross your fingers for me) I may be getting a little extra cash here soon. So it may end up cooler than I had initially planned :D

fingers crossed, for both of us!!!:thumb::thumb:

No I actually have the problem.

The core support is cracking and the radiator is moving around quite alot. I don't want a core support and mine is modded quite a bit anyway.

On the other hand I have a stick of 1.75 and a stick of 1.5:D

Oh yah still messing around with the wires too, I can do that when I don't feel good though cause everything is pretty accessible

time for that engine cage Eric....

you wanted to redo the shock mounts too din't ya?

I am ditching the core support Dave.

Yes probably going to redo the shock mounts, do em like yours maybe.

Not sure yet, I have 40 feet to mess with. Main core support hoop will probably be 1.5, main structure will be 1.75.

I didn't plan on doing this but after looking at how much the radiator has been moving around on me it kind of scared me.

That and being able to move the winch control around a bit mount a grille and put some decent lights behind the grille I am putting in.

Horton looks alot more "finished" with a grille in there.

In addition the core support has been moving enough that most of my orginal welds when messing with the core support have cracked. So it would require taking it all out and redoing a bunch of welds. Mine as well bend tubing instead.

So your going to make plates to attach the rad to the hoop then?
How bout sheet metal mounting, or are you done with fenders and hood?
Do you plan on tying the two sides together to make it more rigid?
I think I might still plan on running a tie in from each side of the support out to the front stinger bumper on mine....thoughts?

Dave I am not sure where I am going with it overall.

I will probably cut up the old core support to mount the radiator to. If the mount was more rigid then it wouldn't flex. I like the way the stock radiator mounts.

That is of course the initial plan, I also have a tranny cooler and power steering cooler to mount there. Will probably move the rad back an inch or so.

Just going to have to see once I get in there.

I am going to run fenders, probably the old trashed ones but I have some ones I can cut up and use if I feel like it but for now the old ones will do.

If I didn't have KOH to go to then I would put new fenders on it. Hood will stay, fenders will stay and the bedsides will stay.

I love the way Horton still looks kind of like a chevy.

Putting a GMC grille from an 89 single headlight. So it will just be solid grill all the way across, I have some different lights to put in too. Much better driving lights off a semi.

Anytime you can tie something in with something else Dave its good

I was able to mount my coolers behind the latch support w/ some 1" square tubing. Just drilled a hole through the 1" and mounted w/ 1/4 bolts and locknuts.

forget the stock core support. run tube from firewall angled in to center of frame on either side. cross in front near rad area, cross near shock mounts. hoop connect to tube for shocks, or just plain tube up to it. tabs for fender mounting. tabs for lights or just run 7in KC or whatever with the nub on em for mounting.

If i go the next level with my rig i think i will do that in the front. i would run a piece of tube out to catch the fenders taht way when i narrowed the front down the road the tube would already be narrowed i would just have to lob the extenders out.

So many things i want to do....
