Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

That reinforces my theory about tire pressure, and I bet you my K5 that I had would have made it there esasily, because I had a stiff suspension and my suspension never unloaded like this.
I always did hill climbs and side hills never had a problem, I always had at least 20lbs in my tires and stiff springs.
Each type of wheeling needs different specs and this is where this truck just wasn't the right spec.:pimp:

Your welcome to come and try.

A stiffly sprung rig would have had a hard time even getting on the right line though. 20 lbs even on our heavy rigs is way to much for these rocks. I should have had more air in my tires more than likely but 20 lbs and you would have slid right off every time your tires moved.

I typically run about 10 but forgot to check em so I was at around 7 right there.

Remember it wasn't the right spec because I rolled, If I had made it then it would have been the perfect truck.

This line is call Captain Insano for a reason.

So one of my main issues has been the fact my steering sucks. My front leaf springs are slightly out of alignment, that combined with my long flexy stock springs, the fact I still use bushings everywhere and have a very heavy wheel tire combo. Has caused me some issues.

Solution? Link it.

Little while ago I helped David ( sixb) out with some cage work he traded me some coilovers. While I would love to use those its not in the budget right now. But selling them would make a whole lotta stuff in my budget.

Plan is 3 link front with a panhard ( of course) I won't have the money to go full hydro so there is talk of trying to use a scout steering box to relocate the axle a bit more forward.

So who here has gone coils, researching coil rates and trying to figure out a way to weigh Horton accurately. If I can get a very accurate weight I may just order a custom set from Deaver ( much cheaper than leaves) but hoping I can find an off the shelf coil that will work.

So how you going to make the scout steering box work????? Well I am going to cut the frame off at the firewall. Going to be all tube from there forward.

I may cut the frame off at the back of the t cases and just use tube there too.

Sheetmetal you ask? What little I have stays. Hood, fenders, grille, and bedsides. Horton is a Chevy truck and I will try to retain that identity.

So major rebuild coming soon. Hopefully be done before blazer bash, but might end up taking the Jimmy to blazer bash, we shall see.

I would like opinions about the upcoming actions I am going to take.

Thoughts ideas anything I am doing not making sense tell me. I want to hear your opinions. I get to thinking one way and sometimes have a hard time seeing that something else might be much simpler.

Probably going to be about 2 weeks before I really start anything, for now lots of measuring and planning going to be happening

Just fix what you got and don't go overboard.

One day soon you will have mine to fix also then your plate is really going to be full.

Cutting the frame at the motor mounts would probably make things a lot easier

So, does this mean we're not wheeling together again for a while Eric?

Are you gonna narrow it? This guy narrowed his to 61" and mine is around 66".

Goll I hope not Kert. I will be at blazer bash regardless. Hopefully in Horton. We shall see. Its reasonable possibility that Horton might be wheeling Moab this year naked.

Not as much David, I want to suck it in a bit but I am still stuck with a stock steering column and don't want much to relocate everything as far as brake booster and such.

I will end up being about 4" narrower at the A pillar, that will match my b pillar but I can't really go any narrower because I wouldn't be able to fit the back seat in there.

The goal is to get enough stuff out of the way that when I put the fender on the widest part of the truck with the fenders on will be almost 6" narrower than before. That means sucking the fender in some

Hey Flowerpot!!! Glad you're ok. Take it easy on the toy will ya!!!!! You actually make a rollover look like fun!!!!:haha::haha::haha::waytogo:

Glad no serious injuries!, Thanks for using those harnesses. Good lesson for me, I too often just do the lap belt. If you have the harnesses on its alot easier just to cinch them down when things could get hairy instead of unbuckling and rebuckling.

Can't wait to see the creation at Blazer Bash.

Horton gets a makeover. Now that is reality TV I would watch!!

Ut ohhh do we have another marv on our hands??? Hahahaha Wheel nekid!

D*mn that was a nasty rollover, the cage seemed to work though:waytogo:
I gotta build me one too soon:doah:

Have you considered just adding a panhard bar?
I don't think it would effect flex much if done correctly.

Eric do you have a local coop or metal recycling/salvage yard you can weigh the truck? That's where I weighed mine, I just weighed the total and then weighed one end so I knew the front/rear split. Then I just subtracted the weight of the axle and tires. And technically half of the steering and links as well. It was close enough that the ride height turned out where I wanted with the FOA spring calculator.

How did you narrow the front end?

Well at first I just cut the core support and welded it back together, then I completely removed the core support and bent some tubes in place of it.

I highly recommend the tube bending

Wish I would have done the tube option.
