Horton, driveshaft opinions wanted

"Horton is a great working rig, having big ideas is cool, but keeping it going is paramount!!!!"

You said it 76zimmer!

I'll 2nd that, for what its worth...

Keeping it going is paramount.

I have some of the best rockcrawling in well just about anywhere all within an hour of my house. Some about 15 minutes away.

This major change will just allow me to do some stuff I think will improve it. Plus lets face it on a truck like mine the stock frame is just UGLY :D:D

Cause Horton is all about looks, I think that is obvious

I say link it:D
The way Mitch is doing his is stupid cheap and even looks like it may work:D
You already have the coilovers and go with square tube for links. Go full hydro and push the axle out a few inches instead of moving the drivetrain?
One more great reason is for me to copy when I'm ready:D

Your probably right David

Going through some of my build thread I notice that I talk about linking the front a lot.

I have about 11 sticks of 1.75 to play with on this setup. Not taking Horton to KOH anymore so I don't have to bust butt to get the cage done.

So with all this talk its time to finally bit the bullet, even if I have to put bushings everywhere to start out with I am going to figure out a way to get Horton linked in the front.

:waytogo:

Do it. I hear all the cool kids are doing linked fronts these days.

....and by "cool" I mean clinically insane. :haha:

In the back of my mind during the build process I keep catching myself chanting the mantra: "gotta fit 10 pounds of sh1t in a 5 pound bag" :D. And I've only got one link in place so far....

Post pics. Obviously.
Need inspiration.

with 11 sticks of tube why even keep the pickup frame?

I say get it going with the frame as is and then build the tube chassiss with the extra tube and using extra axles. That way you have a wheeler and with the 1 tons being free you can take your time on a buggy build. Yes 1 tons are FREE I have 2 sets on the floor now and this year have had around 5 sets, some Dodge, Ford and GM.:D

or fix horton enough to wheel without spending alot then start on chassis and everything then once you get to the point swap axles and drivetrain over and finish it. At least you could still be wheeling while building.

I would really like to do this.

But I have been looking at budgets for a full on buggy build and what it would take to link Horton in the front.

With my future finances I am looking at about 4-5 years before I get a chassis going. Thats just the rolling chassis.

That all can change of course.

I realize I am pretty much going against all the advice I have given other people. But I have a very specific set of things I want to to do to a buggy.

The leaf springs in the front I have cursed every time I go wheeling. So right now for my enjoyment I am going to keep building Horton.

I am also going to start getting parts to build a buggy. Probably start building the chassis sometime in 2014.

Of course I change my mind like a teenage girl looking at shoes sooo:whistle:

Still not nearly done gotta start cleaning up the metal and get the rest of the a pillar out.

Gonna change quite a bit overall but it will look almost exactly the same :doah:

You did all that without knocking the shock off the tire?:waytogo:

So are you keeping the stock firewall this go round?

You're an animal, Eric. :waytogo: Will be pretty cool to see the transformation to Horton.

yep still keeping it, its just getting narrower.

Wasn't much vibration going on Heath. Cutting apart a cage it seems the vibrations of the sawzall don't go much into the cage they just go into your arm!

I used a new Sawzall blade I had never tried before either Lennox Gold seires. Wow good blades but a little on the thin side. I could have saved one blade if it would have been a bit thicker like demolition blade

So in my quest for info I decided to gather as much info about what spring rates everyone is running on their full size Chevys. Speaking specifically of coil overs

If you are following the thread please PM with the info I kind of want it to be in one post so its easy to find.

I have got a couple guys info and I will be editing this post with all the numbers but I want to organize them somewhat before posting.

So for now this is a place holder of sorts
