I failed smog. Heated O2 wiring questions now.

I dont know. He didnt do a print out. We were both looking at the computer monitor. When i got home, the exhaust smelled really bad though.

be carefull, that is how you burned your CAT, don't mess this one up too, running rich will kill your CAT.

Jeff, when was the last time you replaced the CTS (coolant temp switch)? When they go bad that can cause it to run rich.

I think i put a new one in when i put the rebuilt motor in last yr. Might as well get another one of those also.

I forget. Are you running headers?

If so, i've heard you may need a heated o2 sensor to work properly. I've been running super rich, and have a heated 3 wire ready to go in this weekend. Hope it helps.

I doubt it went bad that quickly. Being OBD1 can you check on a scanner to see if it is going closed loop? I'm not sure, but I think that the O2 signal and the CTS are the two things that cause it to go into closed loop.

I am running headers. Edelbrock smog legal ones.

Before you swap out all these sensors, have you pulled the codes? You may be wasting time, energy, and money if it's something else.

That is what Im thinking. I might just buy a code reader. Wonder If I can borrow one or rent one from a auto parts store.

Thats right!!!!! There is a paperclip on the floor next to the brake pedal, Been there for a long time. I will check it out today. The check engine light is not on, Will it still show a code?

If there is a stored code, it will show it. This system is primitive, but it DID store some codes, that won't show a Check engine light all the time.

Read codes, then pull the ECMA and ECMB fuses, wait a few min, and put them back in to clear the codes.

Thanks bud! I have a lot of diagnosing to do! It smelled kinda like eggs or something when I got back from smog. Seems like a loss of power too.

Can you tell if the O2 sensor is bad visually?

The CTS is brand new. Looks like im going for the heated O2 senson. Where do the other 2 wires go? Positive and ground?
