Is this a D44 or D60?

Hmmm, all interesting info. He said the trans was a 350, but I think he was just going off what the PO told him. I'll take a look at the trans and see if I can tell what it is. If not, I'll post a pic and you guys will likely be able to school me on it.

@sweetk30, I agree someone has been in there what with the RTV globbed all over it. I had a local trans shop go through the one going in my wife's dually last month, so I'll run this over there and have him take a peak inside. Hopefully it just needs a seal kit, and scrape all that crap off.

Got the rear bumper off to make adjustments to the brackets. A couple shots of the engine bay. No A/C or heat. Has an MSD ignition. No washer fluid reservoir. Might have to rig something up for that since this truck will likely see some mud. Came with a Red Top at least. Haven't checked to see how old it is. Typical rats nest of wiring under the dash. The rats nest under the hood isn't terrible. Fairly easy to trace everything back to the source. It's got dual electric fans (probably Windstar from the looks of them), and they are on a seperate toggle switch.

The guy I bought it from said he replaced the instrument cluster, but hadn't plugged it in. I plugged it in today, and couldn't see that it worked other than the high beam indicator lit up. I didn't fire it up though because I ran out of time, so it's possible other things are working.

From one of the pics on CL both the windows were up, but now they are stuck down and the switches don't seem to work. I need to trace those down and figure out why.

Looks like a little fire molded the a/c box around the evaporator at some time.

I had kinda wondered if there had been a fire or something under there at some point, but not totally sure. The firewall, a/c box, etc, all have some funky black paint/undercoating type stuff on them. It's crinkled like somethign caught fire, but it really looks more like some sort of paint that cracked as it dried up. Maybe a fire prompted the engine rebuild...

GM used some kind of asphalt like sealant on the firewalls on square bodies--I've seen a few that had an excessive amount applied rather sloppily (robot had a bad day ?)--it tends to crack after years and wrinkle up like that..it may just be that..stuff is hell to get off,you need heat and a scraper to remove it and its tough to get all of it off..

1st pic in this post you can see the side shoot of the pan its a th400 pan .

thats got to be the cleanest non junk all over engine bay i have seen on a c-list ride in a long time .

and if going mud look at 88-95 style trucks for the bigger electric pump washer fluid bottle . its almost 2x the size as our old square body units .

Man you have a good eye.
I went through all the pics to see if I could spot it but pictures that didn't have the tcase in I didn't look much.
Also I am on my tiny phone.
Assuming you are on a computer?

my flip phone wouldn't be any good for this stuff .

ya in the shop on computer . ready to go get pizza for lunch now .

I have not had a computer running in 8 years.
Everything is on my phone, over the road makes that the only option

Sweetk30, nice eye on the 400 pan in the pic. I laughed out loud that you could spot that.

I concur that overall this thing is in pretty good shape for CL find. Particularly for what I paid for it. Got the rear bumper moved up today. Working on mounting some lights under the back cover that shine to the side and rear. Need to take the winch and light bar off the front bumper so it can be moved up (wires are run under the front grille, but over the top of the bumper currently). Maybe I should make this a build thread at this point... If any Mods peak their heads in this thread feel free to move it. I'll have to think of some snarky name for it. Something like, "A truck I don't need and my wife laughed at me when I brought it home..."

Thanks for the info on the washer pump/bottle. I don't plan on mud bogging, but more pressure and volume is never a bad thing!

I'm hoping this will get me to get moving on the dually again. I just need to take the tarp off the frame and get things going on it and it will start to come together. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

Parts started showing up in the mail yesterday, and my wife was like "What are those for?" I said, "The Blazer." She said, with a smile, "Which one?" She has laid some subtle hints that I need to get the dually going. Probably better do that sooner than later!

What electronics does the dash cluster run when it is plugged in? The guy said the power windows worked when he bought it, but he had unplugged the dash cluster and not plugged the new one back in because he couldn't get his hands behind the dash. He said after that the windows stopped working. I pulled the cluster out yesterday and hooked the rectangular plug into the printed circuit, but the only thing I can tell that works now on the cluster is the high-beam indicator. Does the dash cluster have anything to do with the window switches? I wouldn't think so, but thought I would ask before digging around in the doors to see if I can figure why the windows aren't working.

D44

Edit: I was going to say ten bolt but I wasn't sure.

How do you know the difference between a 44 and 10 bolt?
Looking at the LMC catalog, I think it would be called a 10 bolt D44, wouldn't it? Just guessing here, but the 10 bolt would be 6 lug, and the 10 bolt D44 would be 8 lug? Both seem to be 8.25" ring gear.

D44 came on 1/2 (6 lug hub) & 3/4 (8 lug hub) ton. It's the 14 bolt out back that dictates.

No, a Dana 44 was put under them until 1980? Then gm made the corporate 10 bolt and put them under. They are basically the same strength. Typically I just go off year, 70s Dana 44/ 80s ten bolt
