iwaxmyjimmy's build thread 5/28/22 update

Well I rolled on the bedline for the front floor pan last night. Today I bolted in the seats and console, hid the seatbelt warning light and overhead light wires, sprayed the hood and cowl panel, after I cleaned out the cowl panel screen.

I'm getting ready to bedline my floor in my blazer also. How did yo uhide the wires? Did you do away with the light that illuminates the 2hi,4hi, N, & 4lo down there by the transfer case shifter?

I'm putting in twinsticks, which I forgot to add I ordered them yesterday morning, so I wont be using that. But I cut the wires and put butt connectors on them and hid them up under the dash.

What about the dome light and seatbelt light wires?

I pulled up the sill plate and ran the wires under there to under the seat. I left my headliner in so have the dome light wires hidden by that

Oh okay I gotcha. I don't have a headliner so I'll have to get creative

My twin sticks and rails got here yesterday, waiting on an invoice for my front winch plate then ordering the winch. Really need to find a 60 for the front, but my leave is up and I gotta head to Cali today. Still so close to pulling the trigger and ordering a rotating assm, alum. radiator, and I found a block to use for a 496 build.

I cant decide on just driving it with the TBI engine or putting a big block in it. Hell I cant decide on putting a D60 under the front of it or what tires to order. If i was home it would be alot easier. I could just wait and bring it out here and then do the twin sticks, D60, 42s, and big block. Still trying to figure this all out.

I've decided, I'm leaving it on stock suspension, same 33s, same 350 TBI, and just getting it here. Then I'll once its here I'll throw on the output mounted parkin brake, twinsticks, lockers, front springs, extended lines, ez-inch, crossover, shackleflip, shocks, 37 or 38s, maybe chromos for the 10 bolt. I think I'm gonna hold off on puttin a 60 up front for a lil while get some seat time with some 37/38s and suspension before going all balls the the wall with a EFI big block, 52/56s, D60, 5.13s, and 42s. Dont need to go so big that its not enjoyable even though here on the west coast its go big or go home.

Ok, just ordered headers, hardware, gaskets, radiator, and both hoses for $240 to my door. Even a 4wd nut can get a break on black friday. And Twisted Eng. winch mount is on its way too.

Well I go home on leave this week hopefully I'll get to wrench on it and maybe get it running and driving. Still have a bunch of parts to put in it and found some H2 wheels and bfg muds I might pickup just to make it look better. Still can't decide moving it out here will be a good idea.

Well I'm going on summer block leave and hopefully will have time to get it running and driving and swap all these parts on it. It should be fun its been a while since Ivevseen the ugly pig

Well I scored a vortec 350 for 125 bucks that I'll rob the heads and valvetrain out of. I'm still looking to see how much I can mill off them to get my compression ratio up. And i need yo find an after market EFI or build a harness, ls1 computer, tpi manifold.... or something like that

Sad to say I bought a jeep a lil while back and I've spent a little bit of money one that. Its fun and makes me miss my K5. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to get my K5 shipped here mainly because its not done, I want to work on it, and I don't really trust driving it across the US. But right now I'm looking like I should have it over here in California in about 2 or 3 months. Bad thing is it hasn't been registered for about 5 years and no state inspections either. So I need to make sure I can get it re registered and see if an out of state inspection here in cali will fly so I can drive it once is road worthy. I know once I get it here I need to fix the starter wiring, it needs tires, radiator/hoses replaced (have the parts), install the rear driveshaft(have the parts), bleed the clutch, bleed the brakes, and get some thread-all for the air cleaner. I'll prime the engine before I try to fire it. Its been sitting for about 5 years, and if it smokes like a tire fire, or knocks, I'll pull it out and find me a JY 5.3 and swap it in. I really do just want to get it up and diving again. After its up and running and driving I'll find some CUCV axles or buy a truck and part it or throw my 8 lug 10bolt in it and resell it. That will be sometime next year at least. But while I wait to save up for that I'll build a rear bumper and sliders for it. You know what really got me thinking about this ugly thing was the fact I am helping a guy figure out how to run 1 tons on a JK unlimited out here. Seeing that 14 bolt just got my blood pumping for the K5 again. Hopefully I can make some damn good progress on it and get it back rolling and beasty again. Btw I'm totally pissed I went with a 10 spline SM465/NP205 combo because that magnum range box is bad ass.

Well I've been thinking about what I'll do with the k5 once I get out of the military. I want to go thru it and build a new frame, 6.0/4l80E/ either a stak, atlas, or 241/205 doubler, ford driver drop hp60 front center section build the rest with GM/dodge inner C's and knuckles that uses standard chevy shafts. 3 link front 4 link rear with coil overs, boat side it, and I want to narrow the whole body too. It's going to be a multi year project and I want to keep it somewhat street legal and even if the body is narrowed I want it to star registered and insured. But right now I'm trying to figure out if I want to stay in California, move back to NC, or move out to Colorado. Colorado is looking more and more appealing.

Ended up moving back home because my dads health sucks, school has been keeping me pretty busy. I bought a pair of 1 tons last weekend. Finally emptied all the parts out of my k5 where it has been sitting for the past few years. I'm still trying to track down a 32 spline sm465/205 combo and would love to run a NWF econobox. Axles are 4.10s and I plan to run 43 TSL/SX. Also bought everything to swap a hydraulic roller cam including a 5.7 vortec cam. Got some 17x8 d window wheels, buddy of mine is going to hook me up with some rollers. Still need to order steering arms for crossover/high steer, get a 2wd steering box, I really need to replace the floor in the back, and I think the rockers are starting to go. I rented a 15x10 storage unit to keep all my stuff in. Need to do the shackle flip out back even though I've thought about inboarding the leaf springs and running slider boxes out back.

Yeah I'm getting my own place in January so hopefully I'll have more time to work on it. It needs a lot of work
