With the LS stuff stock works just fine with zero issue's.
:haha:
Ya, that's why they break exhaust bolts...
Smart-ass... :D

The LQ4 out of my truck, and the LQ9 that I put in, had broken bolts.
But now the LQ9 has stainless headers!
I don't have any stock manifolds!!

Do you have flex pipes on your exhaust? First time I’ve seen a Sanderson crack.

Yup, one in each pipe and another back behind the merge pipe.
My only guess was that the thermal expansion between the front and rear cylinders got to it since they are parallel to the crankshaft basically. Maybe they are pushing and pulling against each other???
:dunno:

It seems odd to me, for sure. Especially since I have a set of old Dynomax headers on my C10 that I bought for $90 in 1986. They have been on 2 trucks and 3 or 4 engines. Even bent one upwards on a speed bump in Phoenix. Still holding up.

I haven't finished the exhaust system yet, and haven't taken pictures of everything yet, however this shows how close the right side pipe is to things. Still haven't moved the fuel lines yet.

I had to pull the power steering pump to fix a leak at the suction fitting. It had cracked at the edge of the weld. Took it to a friend who hit it with the TIG and i asked him to add a small brace to help prolong its life. 20220531_174806.jpg20220528_175628.jpg

Annual thread bump I guess.
After Saturday of BB22, there was a 8" puddle of transmission oil under the truck after only an hour parked. The trans to 203 adapter was leaking terribly. So Sunday wheeling was nixed rather than drip oil up Moab rim.
Well, then life happened and I finally got some other stuff done and started into this. Got the doubler pulled today in between helping my son. One of the adapter bolts was so loose that I could turn it by hand. This truck transmission jack is nice, but still had to jack the back end up to get it out from under the truck.
Hope to get more done this week than last week on it.

Finally got a chance to open the doubler up today. Initial plan was to repair the leak at the trans tail housing, new input shaft seal in the 203 section, drill and tap it for a drain plug. (No idea why I didn't do that in 2018!) Then I was just going to check bolts and put it back together.
Well I discovered that the 205 mounting nuts were loose at the doubler plate and it was seeping a little oil. Pulled it off and found the splines very worn on the shaft as well as the input gear in the 205. :doah:
The 203 box had pretty bad oil because of ATF and metal when I pulled the PTO cover to look and clean inside. Rolling the shafts didn't sound good either. Odd, it never sounded badly in the truck.
I also knew of an incident with the previous owner on this doubler which made me suspicious of a leak in the case. I found that it was definitely cracked from an impact. I already have a spare range case sitting, so this is just more time than I was anticipating.
I wasn't planning on going into the 205, but hopefully the parts will be on the shelf at ORD. If out of stock Monday morning, it could be a big problem for BB23 plans.

I don't really have any extra time, but i guess that i should drive up to ORD with the spare 205 as trade towards new parts. Might even take the one out of the old '72 K5 as well. Kinda hate to make that SM465 an orphan, but haven't sold it or used it in 5 years.

Looks like you caught that just in time!

After not getting much done during the week, my son and I got both boxes ready to go back together after the paint dries on the 203 range box. I had previously painted the doubler with VanSickle tractor paint after reading reviews of it from @ZooMad75 and @Larry . They are correct that it is tough stuff!! It holds up very well when cleaning the case with wire brushes and buffing pads in the die grinder! So I couldn't install the "new" 203 box without paint. Well, it needs an overnight cure. So this is where we stopped, which gave my cranky legs a break.

I will get grief for not taking any pictures today, but I got the boxes bolted together and the whole thing stabbed into the truck in only an hour and a half by myself. I was pleased with that and it was a good thing as my son and I spent the rest of the day finishing it up and doing a few other things to check and prepare.
Triple sticks are not making near the noise that they were. The worn shafts apparently were talking a fair amount!

It was a good day and I feel decent about being close to ready.

Bringing this back from the dead.

After never feeling pleased with how this engine runs with the PF4 despite trying several things with settings, I am finally feeling good about how it runs! Only 6+ years later!!
After going to the San Juan Mountains this summer, it has been running like crap! Went from 5200' up over 12,000' in elevation. It struggled to get home.
So since I was busy with many other things and had an attitude about still having problems, I haven't spent much time on it.
Well, a HUGE Thank you to @Bent77 for spending the time using his skills to discover that the MAP sensor provided by Edelbrock was a potential problem.
Swapping it out for a used one from an '05 Yukon, then swapped a new set of spark plugs in with a self learn reset gave a huge improvement which finally made it run better than a sick V6!
I was ready to do another engine swap for an 8.1 even though it would have cost a ton in related parts.
Now I just want to drive it and let it learn some more!
:saweet:

I owe the Bent one a huge Thank you!!

Next is fixing the front bumper to accept the new fairlead from Yankum since the roller fairlead has been bumped into rocks many times. I had matched the bolt holes to the old Warn fairlead years ago.

Glad to see an update on this, can’t wait to see it in Moab. I’m coming even better and stronger this year.
