Just got 86 blazer, need help, got alota ideas

In south MS in the summer no, but yeah i would need it in the winter time.. I would think..

I'm in SoCal, and I don't run a choke on mine. For example of weather, it's 35* and pouring rain out right now. I just have to hold the throttle open a little for the first couple minutes after startup, then it'll hold idle fine.

But do you have trouble with it starting up? You dont have to wind on it to get it started?

until it got to the low 30's ive never needed the choke at all, stab teh throttle a couple times and would fire right up.

Ok so i got a new quad with electric choke. So it wont hurt anything just not to hook the choke up??

Ok cool. Im just not 100% on how the electric choke works under normal running conditions and didnt know if it needed power all the time or not for the carb to run right.

I have an electric choke on my edelbrock 4bbl, and it's never been hooked up, ever. Been on that truck for like 10 or 15 years haha.

Thanks for the info guys! Now i just got to figure out where the hot wire for the fuel pump goes..

For what its worth, I second the go to 1 ton axles and keep the Quadrajet. The quads make more power and are more trouble free by far than the holleys or the carter/edelbrocks. Ive used both and by far prefer the qjet.

Keep the Q-jet Holleys are for Street rigs even there "offroad carb" . I have a Built 406 with dart heads and I run a Jet Performance q-jet .
I also Have a built 377 with Bresinski Racing ported Vortecs with a Jet Performance Q-jet. And Another 377 with stock vortecs and a Edelbrock q-jet . A 510 BBC with Dart heads and a Jet Performance q-jet. I even have a 408 Dodge small block with a Jet Performance q-jet. there all in heavy 4x4 trucks The q-jet carb has given me the most power ,mileage, and DRIVABILITY for the rigs that actually get driven on the street and offroad

For something you drive on the street or any offroading the only thing better than a q-jet is Fuel Injection

I stayed with the Qjet but im still working on getting it tuned in.. It aint acting right when i stomp the gas. Its like its stumbling and not kicking in the 4 barrells.

I can't help you with the carb...

but,

have you checked at/around the steering gearbox for cracks in the frame and/or loose bolts? If some, you need repair (there is a kit)... if none, you should put the ORD brace on it with any lift and larger tires.

You might already know this... but if not... some time spent reading the forum can turn up very important info such as this.

accelerator pump working? you can depress it at any time and it should shoot fuel into the primaries...

Hmm.. I"ll check.. This thing was built by a guy that is suppose to be the man on quads.. So im thinking it maybe something i done. Im running a carb spacer, would sucking air from somewhere cause this?

Yeah a Vacuum leak could cause the troubles your having as the secondarys are vacuum.

Your adapter plate might not be flat I've had alot of the store bought adapters not be flat and would leak even with double gaskets . wouldn't hurt to take a can off starting fluid and spray around the base of the carb and adapter.

if the adapters not flat just take it do a machine shop and have them mill it flat on both sides
