K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

Hey Avery, are you going to make some kind of guard for the cooler? It just seems kind of vulnerable where it's at to me. It's probably fine though. Looks like it's up pretty high. That raw aluminum thing with the fins mounted to the crossmember is the cooler isn't it? If that's not what that is, I'll feel stupid. :doah:

I like it (your hydro plumbing). Sometimes it's okay to pay a little extra for something that looks really nice. It's something for the rest of us to drool over and makes it look very professionally built. :D

Nah it's tucked up high where it's mounted.

I was thinking of mud and errant rocks getting kicked up and stuff like that too. I know Avery's got a fancy radiator and he's redone everything under the hood, so he probably doesn't have anywhere to mount the cooler in the engine compartment anymore. That's why I was thinking of some kind of skid plate or something. I don't know. It will probably be fine; it just looks kind of vulnerable in the pictures. You know how stuff looks different when you see a pic of just that one thing. You can't really see what everything around it looks like sometimes.

I'm leaving in the morning to do some wheeling this weekend! Can't wait to try out the hydro assist. Pictures to follow when we get back.

So where's the pics already???

:haha:

Had I been 100% me wise I would have been up there with y'all.

You should have been there! It was kind of good for me though because without you there I had to really learn what the heck was going on direction wise. Ryan really helped me out in that department.

We went down rock creek road and passed the entrance gate and took that allllll the way around to "base camp" then from there it drops you in really close to where we were climbing that big rock face where you lost your brakes on your last trip. It's kind of a cool route to take, different scenery on the drive over.

Here's the few pics we got...

Have two trips coming up. One to Pismo for "Huckfest" (a jump contest) and another up to Coyote/Red. Not sure when the Coyote trip will be but soon after the Pismo trip.

Decided to build the last crossmember and skid plate I'll ever have to build for the truck. 3/8" plate and 2" x 2" x .250" wall tubing. :)
Should get it knocked out over the next few evenings.

Finished up the skid plate and updated crossmember project. I'd like to add to it in the future but for now I won't have to worry about breaking my aluminum 241 range box via smashing it on a rock.
It's as absolutely high as I could get it against the lowest part of the adapter plate between the cases without notching the skid plate (which I thought about) but I decided if I'm going to hit I'd rather hit a nice big smooth plate. The bolts are even through the side so there's no bolt heads to beat up from below.

Truck has been sitting since the last trip (about 6 weeks ago) and I reached through the door and turned the key, it fired right up and ran like a champ. I'll go through my pre-trip check list next week and it'll be good to go for the following weekend in the dunes.

I think you'll be good if you happen to hit an IED out on the trail.

On a side note, as I was trying to view your pics in a larger size on Photobucket, a huge penguin kept walking across my screen and advertising a brand of pickles. What's that about? Photobucket has ads now? Sigh.

Those welds are :smokin2:!!!!!! Nice work. I might be at Huck Fest too!!

I'll PM you my number, if you make it out shoot me a text or call. My friend from Pacific Fabrication might make it with the race truck on paddles too. chevysmithz71 and I are staying right down the street from the south entrance to the dunes Friday night.

I know we've talked about this once or twice, but how involved was the install on the AFI kit?
i'm debating getting a quadrajet from Jet, vs springing up for the AFI kit.
