Linked 74 K5. Rental house driveway build.

Looks good so far. May have a take a drive up on the bike when the weather warms up a little. I'm just SE of Black Forest

I hope. For what I paid, I couldn't build up a decent old school big block, and it came with a transmission. Good luck with your search for one.

Sweet score the 8.1L..... :thumb:

I cant wait to get my hands on one. :D

Definitely nice work, makes me wonder what I would do different if "I could have only one". Probably not much.

Thanks Stephen. I will be calling you again when I have the cash to link the rear axle. The one thing I keep thinking about with this build so far is that I should have gone with a doubler or maybe a 241 for the lower gear.

Any updates?

The weather is getting better, so yeah, I have been making some progress. Installed a big block radiator. Welded in a custom frame crossmember that interfaces with the steering box. Installed steering box, and picked up a custom pitman arm from parts mike. Will try and post up pics soon.

Any updates on the build?

I wanna see what you ended up with for the exhaust on the 8.1? Any frame mod's or anything crazy?

Are you thinking about getting an 8.1 for your K5? I have not figured out the exhaust yet on mine. I am thinking that I will try the Sanderson big block headers made for these trucks. I asked them if they had heard of anybody trying them with the 8.1, and they said no, but they thought they would work. It may be a few months before I pick those up. I tried installing a set of the edelbrock vortec 454 headers, and no dice. The drivers side hit the frame rail.

I did get a JD32 bender and am working on the cage now. 2" DOM for the main pieces.

Nice work man! very cool build, any updates?

Thanks man. I havent gotten much done on this recently except for starting on a cage. I wish we would get a break from the heat this summer. It is brutal working with metal in the sun. I will try and post up some details on the cage when I get a chance.

:D I just kind of thought about it. More of an impulse idea than anything though.:doah: Saw one on CL for 800 bucks!:thumb: But the guy hasnt answered me back on if its still available. Then I searched and found this guys write up and saw how much work he had putting it in a 88 frame. So I figured I would see how you tackled it. Hopefully those Sanderson headers work for you.

So, I think you need to update this thing . Also, when are we gonna get to gether to work on the bumper again????

Did you put the seal retainer on your np205 input after you bored the case for the larger bearing? If so how did you do it?
