lq9 swap questions

o hey quick question, can you run lq9 injectors and rails in a ls intake or is it all kinds of different

if you want to run the car coil pack covers you need the fuel rail for the car.

The truck intake does not flow as well as a car intake, the reason that the truck intakes are taller is to clear the mechanical fan that used to be used on GM trucks.

The 6.0 L PCM does not car what you do to the engine as long as it is accounted for in the tune. For example swapping to the car intake and injectors, the table for VE and injector flow would be changed. VE is volumetric efficiency, this is a measure of how well the engine pumps air. It is measured in percent of air that should be in the cylinder in theory, so at lower rpms and low load you would have VE around 50%, but with a correctly tuned intake system you can see VE's of over 100% in some regions.

So say for example that you know you are going to put the LS car intake on the engine in the near future and you want to run the engine with the truck intake and injectors for a bit, you could do this on the tune for the car intake. Its not going to run the greatest compared to a correctly tuned ls motor, but it will still be miles ahead of a carb.

ok thanks 1979jimmy350.

so if you wanted to run a cable style throttle pedal would you just have to have it deleted in the computer during the flash or are you stuck with what you have.

ive been reading about ls intake swaps and they seem to have problems clearing the electronic throttles on the water pump inlet.

The red/green PCMs can do the cable throttle body. Only a few years of the blue/green PCMs can do both cable or DBW. For cable it needs the IAC drivers in the PCM. GM did away with the IAC drivers in later models.
Red/green, blue/green refers to the connector color at the PCM.

ok thanks man so i should look for a early 2000's computer so its a cable throttle body. does the computer need any specific wiring harness to go with it or can you mismatch them or does it have to be a cable throttle body harness

does anybody have a pic or anything to where i can get an idea of the ecm to get for a DRC setup. anything will be very much appriciated

ok after doing some research and found out that a lq9 and a lq4 are really close to the smae engine and the lq4's are generaly alot cheaper i think ill just settle for a lq4 unless i happen to find a lq9 for the same price, what do you guys think of that

I would go with the lq4 if there that much cheaper, a cold air intake and hedders would make you even with a stock lq9

hahah yea true true, nothing like 8mpgs if your lucky and 150hp haha

yea im pretty sure im going to get a lq4 now, glad i seen that when i did, id hate to spend 900 bucks for 20 more horsepower when i could get the same motor for 500 bucks haha
thats like 100 dollars for every 5 horsepower haha

if your buying a newer lq4 motor about how many miles would be resonable to buy, im wanting to spend like 500 prolly on a motor, do you think i can get one under 100k on it for that

Complete lq4 ready to run under 100k for less than $500? No way and if you do, let me know where since we're both in KY. I paid 300 bucks for my 5.3 with broken rockers.

300 for engine
400 in machine work
200 in bearings and rings
40 for TAC module and pedal.
another 1000 for gaskets, cam, oil pump, pushrods, rockers, etc.
unknown $$ for harness work and PCM tune.

So roughly 2500 by the time it's done and running. But at least it'll be "new". The problem with takeouts is you have to take the sellers word on it. It might out last you or take you down the street before it goes boom.

im really hopeing to beable to just swap it in with no engine work(like internal). i know these new motors can get like 100k on them and still not be wore very much but would they be reliable enough for a wheeler/ weekend driver.

ive seen 100-150k all over ebay for 450-500 bucks but i was hoping for something under a 100k. if i find a place in ky that sells these cheap ill let you know

would 1500 bucks be a resonable price for just getting the motor in my truck and running good or should i shoot higher, thats no mods just in with no assecories or anything.

the service life on these motors is 150k, that comes from GM's application guide. I paid $1000 for my 5.3 with 60k on it. It came with the harness, starter, and front assories. Make sure to take them in account they are not cheap for these engines.

yea i know all about the front accesories and how much they cost ..... it sucks haha
so 150,000 is when the service life is up, but with regular maintance im sure they could go way longer right

IF the engine is taken care of yes they are good way longer, I had a GM dyno operator tell me that the LS engines last about 2000 hours on a dyno under conditions that you could not subject the engine to in normal operation. 2000 hours is around 75k miles.
