LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Look good enough to keep going?

Start over? Not great at gears lol

Think I need new U-bolt plates.
I figured id recheck the torque now that I've driven it a bit. Set it at 125, started tightening, and they were all getting full cranks. Got 2 on this side to click. But the other 2 just wouldn't. So I stopped and got a little more light on the situation and found this :doah:
Knew they had been corroded, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Yeah, it's as centered as I can get it.

Just odd that I don't have any pinion shims in to get that.

To me it looks pretty good, but it's only my 4th gear job and one of those came out somewhat questionable.
Seems to work great, but when you cruising, and get the gas at just the right spot to match the road speed, there's a super faint whine. (not really a whine persay, just the only way to describe it).
Pattern looked good though:dunno:. That's why I question this one lol.

To me, what seems to tell me it's good, is the pattern the pinion gear leaves on the bare teeth after going through the compound.
If that's the mesh pattern I'm pretty happy.

Seems like it gets a good full tooth contact.:dunno:

Only drove it up to the station to get beer after the job was done.
But it definitely has more umppff.

First gear actually still doesn't have it... needs more converter.
Kicking down a gear after shifting, hauls ass lol. I just blipped it to 40 quick.
I was wondering if I should let it learn again?

Can't wait to get it on the highway

When I was pulling the .060 shim out, and getting ready to try with no shims, I was kind of panicking.

Like "What the hell am I going to do it this isn't enough?!" Lol.

Video starts a half second late. But it's all I could get on the way to work.
Bottom left is pedal position. It looks like I need to do a relearn on that, and maybe also my new carpet is getting in the way.
Bottom Center MPH, bottom right RPM.
Thought I had it set to shift at 5k, but I looks like it doesn't till 6. I'll have to recheck that.

If you listen carefully you can hear the slow mellow ramp up at the start. But I'm at 90+throttle.
I blamed the converter for that. But realized that it does the same exact thing in park/neutral. No gear throttle blips are more like mushy roll ins. Instead of a quick hit, it's actually like seconds to come up in neutral.

Little bit better one on the way home. Did a relearn on the throttle position sensor. I still pull off just a hair for some reason though:dunno:. To me it feels like I'm keeping it pinned.

This one might have picked up better in the beginning. Maybe the tps reset..? Much cooler air temp..? Dunno.

Nice work Rick, getting it better!

Did you do the TPS relearn with the throttle itself or the throttle pedal? I like to use the throttle itself so you feel the hard stop and then you can easily see if you are getting 100% throttle with the pedal.

Did you tell the ECU the new gear/tire size?

If the engine is slow to rev in neutral, something is off like a TPS reading, a vacuum leak somewhere, or the accel tuning, etc.

If it only does it like that in gear during acceleration then it is probably the converter holding you back. If it bogs down and then you can feel it come up on the cam and start pulling harder the converter doesn't match the engine/vehicle combination. If you download your tuning file and e-mail it to me I can take a look at it for you.

It has done the slow rev up in park/neutral since the day I started it. That's the thing that I've been trying to figure out is the odd sluggish lower end. In gear or not.

I do the tps learn with the pedal.
I pushed it till it stopped physically twice as it says. But I'm thinking I'm only getting to mid 90% throttle when I'm getting on it do to a difference in how I'm bracing myself. Dunno.

When I set the throttle up I verified that the pedal made the TB open all the way.

I did change it for tires and gears.

When I was first running it after getting it together, I did the old spraying chit around the intake listening for a change and such. Never found anything. Then I suspected my pcv system, because it doesn't have a pcv valve.
Just a hose off the valve cover, to a catch can, to the intake. That is exactly how it was with the stock intake from the factory though.
I just plugged that, at the intake, and itade no change. So I put it all back together through the catch can again.

It's stumping me, because I know it should have more.

Do another TPS relearn, but this time, when you do it with the engine off, pop the hood and grab the throttle blade arm and cycle it twice that way from stop to stop. Then, when you get back in, you'll know if you are getting 100% throttle with the pedal.

What is your timing set at?

I have not played with any acceleration tuning. That's all holley stock unless it changes that whole learning.

One thing I do know, is with the way this thing sounds, and the more I improve it's go, big oils gonna love me lol.
I can't hardly drive it without smashing it at some point.

I went to the car wash with it on my wife's lunch break yesterday. It was her first ride since the gears. Bumped it a few small hits on the way to the wash.
She liked that. So when I left the wash, I decided to take advantage of the wet tires. Turned right out of the drive and pinned it. Holy fock that was fun lol :burnout:
I slid it sideways for quite a while, brought it over the other way for quite a while, and spun em straight for a bit. Only let off to grab more about 2/3 of a block down the road lol.

She freaking loved it:waytogo:

That's pretty conservative, more conservative than the 3 "simple" numbers above that don't appear to be active because it never shows it get to 28 at WOT.

Heath helped me out with a couple tunes to try, off the line is much better. It'll actually squeak a tire and set the seatbelt weights on launch now.

I've decided I need a line lock to help with burnouts :burnout:. Well, want one anyway lol.

I'm using a GPS race timer, and going by it my last run was a 6.1 second 0-60.

Best quarter mile I seen was 15.4

Not sure how correct the app is, but for what it is I'll take those numbers lol.

It's still getting a converter and bigger cam in the near future. Then some chassis dyno time or something.

Definitely having fun with it at the moment.

I need to get my GoPro out for this. Keep forgetting I even have one lol.
Last run I made the other day.

Starting to search through converter info now.
I have the older model so I think the snout is different. May be harder to find one that fits what I want and my trans.
I do have the newer model on the floor. But I no nothing about it. I'd rather have it gone through before I tried to use it.

Anybody know anything about the 4l80e hub differences ?
It says early ones are a 2.05" hub height, and later ones are 2.65" or something like that.
I had one from a 95 and an 05 sitting next to each other and they looked the same to me?
What years would be the EARLY ones they're talking about?
I'm in go mode for a converter and I'm kind of hitting this wall.
In my reading it seemed like maybe the 2.65" ones will work in any year, but the 2.05 ones won't work in later years....? Is that right? Nothing said that exactly but a few comments on other sites kind of implied that.

I decided on staying with a 2500ish stall, since it's not a full out drag truck and with as heavy as it'll be it'll stall at the higher end of the converters range anyway probably.
This pig will be pushing 7000# when finished.
Which was why my brain started leaning on the BB swap not long ago.

The 2 guys that swamp me with OT and lots of extra cash every fall are no longer my guys to cover. Which is what made me decide to stay with this LS and squeeze everything I can out of it short of boosting lol.
