I like using spandex over fleece. Fleece soaks up too much resin and doesn't really provide any more strength. Better to spend the resin on going into fiberglass. Spandex also stretches and shapes easier.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Ill use the fleece this go round just because we have like a dozen fleece blankets around here lol.
They get picked up cause they're cute or whatever when the wife goes to Walmart, and then left in piles. Unused after a while.

Now to get em covered in fleece and coated.
All sides and corners of the mid bass box are wood. Only one odd angled corner needs glassed.
That corner I'll multi layer and reinforce.
The other corner that's in the 6.5" side can do with 2 layers and a reinforcement rib.

Started fleecing the boxes. Got both covered, and 3 rounds of resin.
Started sanding today. But I think I'm going to build a down flow dust collection sanding platform.
Should be quick and easy with stuff I have around.
I do want to try the spandex if I can find it. Seen videos of it, just never used it myself.
May try it on the fronts.

So, you're not using the fleece to build off of, it looks like. You're using it just for some shaping.
When I did mine I used that spandex as a mold to layer the fiberglass onto. The strength comes from the glass. I also found that using a slower setting up superglue along w/ a spray activator worked pretty well over a million staples. Curious to see how this comes out looking. What are you going to do to reopen the speaker holes, flush trim bit?
How'd you like using that UV resin? I've seen it used but never used it myself. That stuff offgas?

So far I love the resin. Absolutely great. It does take longer to set up in the UV vs straight sun though.
My entire enclosure, (the part the mid bass driver is in), is MDF. There's only one corner that's not.
That corner will get a few layers of 1.5 oz chop mat and a couple 3/16 steel stiffening rods inside. There's one long part that the 6.5 side has in it, that will also get reinforced, but not as much. Since that side was left intentionally open into behind the door panel.
The staples shouldn't matter since it'll all be resined over and sanded down. Worked fine on the old pods I built anyway.

Lol. Id love to have spent all yesterday and today on em. But I'm in the middle of a recurrence of an old shoulder injury.
Damnit.
It hit me hard yesterday morning, and by noon I was holding my shirt with my left hand and doing everything with my right.
Can't sand that way, so I dribbled more resin into low spots and such.
Probably do the same today. I'm better but it aches a little and I'm not pushing it. Lol.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon self medicating and sitting on the couch with a heating pad. Today I'll do real small things and more self medicating
. Maybe get the rc crawler out

There's one layer 90*ing up each seam, and 2 layers through the middle area so far.
Used scrap pieces of woven mat instead of the chop mat since they were already unpackaged.
Going to do 2 more layers. Then it should be good since it's not flat. It's curved in 2 directions so is pretty frickin stiff already.

Well, I got sick of sanding because my arms have been messed up for a while.
I can barely grip anything with my left hand and the right hurts from the shoulder down.
So I painted it as is.
And it's staying this way for now lol.
The other one is going to get a similar treatment.
Couple bad spots, and a lot of you look closely.
Maybe I'll do something else in the future when I get better. But I can't do it right now.

Made a few changes to this thing.
New grille, headlights, and painted bumper.
Also have new fenders for it
Never got to the bodywork over the winter like I wanted.
Oh well. It'll happen.
When I do the fenders I'm going to do new hinges on the driver's door. They aren't in good shape at all.
For some reason, with this bumper it all looks OFF.
Looking down the hood gap it looks like that's perfect on both sides, but the bumper is touching one side and 2" away on the other.
