LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
The hard parts in that trans were broken because of something during the rebuild most likely, stock hard parts can easily take 750 or 800 HP with a 4L80E. Something was done wrong, and it drastically changed shifts and then progressively broke itself.

So....
I talked to my transmission dude.
And without so many words he basically said
"You broke it, have fun."

What I did learn.
The hopping stutter WAS slip. He said with the package that's it it, the springs in the clutch pack grab hard on there own, and when it's trying to slip it'll grab slip, grab slip, a bunch, making that stutter/shudder.
I Told him it started doing it, but I thought it was wheel hop so drove it that way a bit, and he said yep, that damaged it enough that it was inevitably going to go bad and was too late to save it by that point.
And he says the crunchy sounds was most likely the ONE WAY that I'll find no far under the pump.

So what that tells me is a full clean out/up.
New clutches and steels.
New one way.
And inspect/replace anything that looks like it was damaged by one way pieces.

I think all the seals and bearings would probably be good :dunno:
But given the sounds it was making, I'm not so positive about it.

I'm leaning towards the 'Jakes performance' kit
Without the hardened shafts.

I'll see when I get in there.
If the case is munched I may just wait till I can buy a pre built transmission

Something was done wrong during that rebuild, you won't know what until you tear it apart, but without experience you might not know after you tear it apart. I would suggest if you do it yourself you start with a stock trans that did work and was just burned fluid or something less.

I have used Jakes kits for DIY a few times, they are good complete kits and the guy is a Veteran too.

I messed up a while back when I seen him on the street.
Told him I thought I slipped it once with the pressure too low trying to soften the 1-2.
That was what he pinged on and started in about how lowering the pressure took it out.
He had nothing to say about how the one way may have broken though.

The one thing he did do which surprised me, was he said he has a full build manual he'd loan me as long as he gets it back.

The 'one way' seems to actually be in decent shape though lol.IMG_20250825_204837867.jpg

The clutches I've seen aren't horrible either.IMG_20250825_204431342.jpg

This set may have gotten a little worn.
I'm not exactly sure what to look for though.IMG_20250825_210413927.jpg

Should the first and second set be the same color?

This is one of that second set all cleaned up and a better pic

So the little bits...what are they bits of? It looks like little flat springs in the mix, from a sprag. Interesting to see those springs ripped loose. That seems like a broken or missing snap ring above it, that allowed it to get in the path of the next part.

The colors don't have to match. It just means he chose different brands in different positions (some people have preferences like that) or your black clutch was re-used. You should look up which one is which.

As for the clutch color it could be because he used a different brand in that pack, or it could also be that particular set is burnt up because it was rubbing all the time or slipping too much and overheated. By the looks of it I am thinking that pack overheated. Is that the pack that had the springs bound up in it?

What about the one way roller in the OD unit? Also, how does the one way bearing feel on the direct drum?
