M1009 Standard Shift Build(The Greatest Adventure)

Gettin' a little chilly here in new England for no doors and top... ain't it? Nice on getting it going again. Looks like your shifter ended up about where a NV4500 swap does

This crazy SOB runs it in the winter with no top on.... :haha:

Aaaaw, man. Anyone know how to put this stuff together?

What's the best method to remove carrier bearings? Even if you have a press, slice em up and whack em with a chisel.

Buckets of diff parts to bring to work for cleaning because gear oil = stank.

Are you REALLY still on the quest for more diff bolts? Figured we were past that by now.

Speaking of your front gears....

They are still in my car :haha:

:doah:

:haha: Looks like you are making good progress! Awesome :thumb:

Not as much progress as I would have liked. Didn't do much to it on Monday as I spent too much time dicking around with my car. I did get the carrier out and brought the housing outside, hit it with degreaser and hosed it out. What little oil was left in there and the magnet was filled with metal shavings. I was wiping out the oil with a rag and you would think I had just dipped it in some metal flake bass boat paint :eek1:.

So far all the old bearings, rollers and races look ok aside from a little pitting on the carrier bearing rollers and inner races. Not nearly enough to cause as much metal flakes as I was seeing. This leads me to believe the original carrier bearings must have lunched themselves and may be why the PO swapped out to the lockright. Anyways, the housing, the carrier (I'll know for sure when I get it cleaned up) and the lockright all look real good. The lockright even looks brand new, no wear marks on it at all.

Between today, tomorrow and Saturday gonna try and clean all that stuff up at work, press on the carrier bearings, remove the old pinion bearing for it's shim and install on the new pinion. Then I can start the reassembly, checking gear patterns and adjusting as needed.
