Yea, im used to cooling it down to shrink the shaft so it fits
That's what I'm talking about.
Hey Rich, I put an XJ shaft on mine a few years ago, and it ended up failing on me and leaving me with no steering. The problem was that the smaller diameter part of the shaft came loose or something and was spinning inside the larger diameter part closer to the firewall. Some guys on here said that they welded theirs at that spot. Just letting you know. Lots of guys love the XJ shaft, but I went back to the old rag joint style after that incident.
I would not suggest welding the shaftThat two different diameters on the steering shaft are there so it can collapse during an impact so you don't get crushed by the steering column.I would not suggest welding the shaft
I say just flatten it with a hammer. I don't remember ever seeing a tab like that before. What did it originally come off of?
My dust shield/caliper mounts always look all beat up and cauliflowered anyway. I don't think it matters if they're straight except for the part that the spindle goes on.
