M1028- [under new management]

No. That there is crazy talk.

I guess it may not be super super obvious to everybody else but I've been hounding some of the local guys and bouncing ideas off of them for the past two weeks, so it's probably more obvious to them I suppose.

The "second" transfer case part confused me.

Though sometimes I think some of our best ideas are the simplest.

So here's what I ended up with. Need to tinker with angles a bit more, initially I didn't have spacers in the carrier bearing Xmember, and I liked the ground clearance better that way, but had some vibrations.

Think I'm going to do some trimming in the yokes for clearance, and turn the shaft 180 in the diff yoke since sometimes that helps.

the main reason I put in an entire crossmember for the bearing is so I have a place to mount the end of my future traction bar.

These are all factory parts, most of which bolted up (drilled holes in frame for crossmember), so I hope I can get it to function as well as it all fit together.

Pics.

The truck that I got the front section from had an NV3500 with dual slip yokes. I didn't figure that sort of thing existed, but if it worked for an 88-98, it should hopefully work for me.

Someday I want to make a giant super long slip and slide out of plastic sheeting.

As I ponder about this more though, I'm beginning to wonder if this much angle on the short shaft puts me in CV territory, possibly killing my "off the shelf parts" goal.

Rear shaft section is currently 2'6" from center to center if anybody has any bright ideas. I could wire EDM out a "slip yoke eliminator" with a flange to fit on the rear slip shaft, then maybe run a k5 rear shaft (dont know length) if they come with CVs... I don't mind having to shorten and customize the front section, as it's unlikely that it will get injured.

All my joints are currently 1350s. I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to carry a spare conversion joint in my glove box if I could make a k5 shaft work..

What did they want for that transmission?

All trannys there are 110. I was really hoping it was a 45 but no such luck. There's also a hydro 465 in an 88-94 there. at least I think it was a hydro.

The hydro part of an SM465 has nothing to do with the actual transmission. It will have a different aluminum top plate though.

right, I was under the impression that the hydro bell housings were a popular upgrade though, so that's why I mentioned it. FWIW. :)

Nope. The newer body style trucks have the slave cylinder on the wrong side because they changed to a driverside drop transfer case.
