M1028- [under new management]

After taking out the carrier bearing twice in one wheeling trip last time out I decided to go back to a one piece driveshaft. As I have a Dana 70 rear and can't run a pinion guard I needed something beefier. I had a piece of 2 1/4" diameter seamless tubing with a .330" wall that should work fine.

Bored it out to take the closest weld yokes that I could find in a 1350 joint.

Welded it up and installed new joints and will try it out this week. Not worried about balancing. As I drive it to the ORV park about two hours each way I'll run my rebuilt stock shaft and swap out when I get there.

Bump?

Martin

You already know I bought an open carrier and a locker for the front. John offered to help me put it in. Should have it in a week or so. Put in two new batteries. It starts all the time now. Ready to wheel whenever everyone wants to go.

Should be sometime soon. I'm itching to go. As long as it's dry. Slick rock doesn't make for a fun weekend. It's up to John as he has the cabin. I'd like to get the locker in first. It does fine with the LSD but would only be better locked.

Where's this cabin you guys stay in? You guys share a real big bed?:haha:

It's about 8 miles from the entrance. It has a couple of bedrooms and enough couches and recliners. Don't need too much comfort to sleep well with enough hydraulic sandwiches the night before.

Picked up an open carrier and locker for the front today. $150 for the pair from Dan (85K5witha6.2)

Installed new front springs. 54" Chevy S10 rear HD 1750 lb springs.

Take it out and drive it?

Martin

Yes, but not much. One of the u-bolt nuts stripped when torquing. Put a grade 8 nut on another bolt and put a different nut on that stud and stripped it again. Just ordered a set from DIY4x.

Since you're down there... Sorry about that weird ubolt on the passenger side where there should be studs... It seemed like a good idea at the time..

Well, since we are going to Tuttle in two weeks and I'm taking a bona-fide Kalifornian with me and I don't want to offend his delicate sensibilities I'm doing something that I said I would never do...a modification for strictly cosmetic reasons.

The old dash pad could have easily qualified as a top contender for DPOTM. Marty had given me a much less crappy looking one but it was grey. As the truck is camo with blazer red/maroon interior in it, I sprayed it down with the closest thing that I had at home that would kind of blend in - Rustoleum Camouflage Brown.

The old and the new:

Installed. The flash makes it look lighter than it really is. I even painted the dash insert with Fabric and Vinyl Black.

This ends our short foray into cosmetic mods.
