The way he treated his followers after they questioned his poor life decision on IG and YouTube was pretty bad. His comments to legitimate criticism was enough for me to decide to unsubscribe.
I think he’s hard up for money, you would have to be to pull something like this. Gas ain’t cheap in California and neither is electricity or rent. He doesn’t make that much money off his videos. Maybe $2000 a month at most. He has a “build consultation” on his website where you pay $300 for him to tell you how to build your truck.

Dudes probably struggling to keep the lights on.

Yea,
$300 Merrick consultation or.... subscribe here and get far better advice and help in your build.
I think i have spent $450 on ck5 memberships…crazy that is only 1.5 consultations!

His consultation will be: custom leaf springs or coilovers (depending on budget), one-tons with lockers, cross-over steering, flashy wheels and tires, roll cage and seat upgrade. Engine/trans/tcase swap depending on budget. Did i miss anything?

I always thought it was odd that he never mentioned this forum. Like this place is the best place on the planet for square body information. If he truly wanted to help others he would point them here.
Good point. I never realized that until you wrote it. Though he will wear CK5 shirts or hats or even have stickers but never a mention to come and join here.

With what he's gained from this place, you'd think he'd make mention in every damn show or at least link here in the description.

@K5Devil what was his poor life decision? I guess I missed something.

I was surprised / disappointed to see a place on the ORD page for “Merrick’s Blazer Build” with a build list of products set up as a recipe for people to copy. I mean, why his truck when they have a fleet of fine examples?

I also never cared for his seat bracket that he’s selling for $500(?). The plans that he uses were posted on gmsquarebody.com by another user as a free template then a year later he’s selling them.

The poor life decision was the 55k price tag and then him literally doubling down against his followers on his social media pages when there was immediate backlash.

You got a link to the original post with plans? I’m going to be building a set soon for my truck.

His response "people saying the price is too high, have no idea about these trucks or this one specifically "

Welllll there guy, actually.....They do, that's why they're pushing back on the price, ya dunce.

Just curious. I have no clue what size the shop is, nor do I know his monthly rent. But searching for commercial properties in Santa Barbara gave a couple hits for around $3/sqft. Assuming the shop size at 4000 sq feet for the entire building that’s $12k a month in rent alone. Factor in power, water, insurance and other consumables by month he’s got an incredible nut to cover. YouTube revenue might average $260/month. He used to have a Patreon page but I don’t see that anymore.

Sure seems like the cost of the shop is a major factor to his decision making process.

I’m not saying the guy don’t have a right to make money at something he obviously loves to do. But his handling of this dually situation shows some pretty bad form to his character. He’s built the whole “squarebody collective” off of guys that love the same things he does. They/we watched because there is a lack of decent build content on these trucks. Sure he used he used the knowledge from CK5 like coach Red Beaulieu used used coach Klein’s little green playbook to his advantage in the Waterboy. But to take the ironic stance to “double-down” and bash guys that know just as much about these trucks is just not wise.

He did note in his video that if nobody bites, he’ll build it himself and send it to an auction. Which my end up biting him in the ass as fickle buyers at auctions can be.
