MNorby's Goat - Ibex build

Still waiting for that atlas. I finally contacted Advance Adapters to inquire about the double length lead time and gear shortages TFab told me about. Apparently they have no shortages and extended lead time, still the standard 8 weeks. They asked who I had purchased through and within an hour I had a call from Derek saying my case will be built shortly and got it paid for now. That was last week.

I know from dealing with Advance Adapters for Blazer Bash they are great people. I always think it's neat when someone donating door prizes makes a point to ask for an event shirt.

The guy I chatted with at AA was great and I don't think they are the problem for the delay myself.

Also about to order seats. Pretty sure I am going to do some PRP comp pro seats and 5.2 harnesses after talking to some guys with firsthand experience with various models of PRP seats. Just waiting for fabric samples to decide on that.

After 15 weeks I finally got the transfer case. Got it all installed tonight. I love working on this thing, so open and easy. Installed tranny in 15 minutes at lunch on the trailer, outside, no jack, with hand tools. Now to start getting driveshafts figured out. Put a little nitrogen in shocks too get get it near ride height for now.

Was just wondering how far along you were getting.

Ready to wheel in a couple weeks?:thumb:

Matt, I don't think you got the "don't paint your trans" memo? :pimp:

like the t/c mounting!

When I was getting this transmission ready I kinda looked into the whole paint/don't paint the transmission topic. This house was DIRTY! Come to find out they say the aluminum is just porous enough that over years it will sweat a little and allows it to get just grimy. Paint will help seal that and prevent that. Most tranny shops paint them too. Some say there is a reason the factory didn't paint them for a reason. IMO that reason is to keep cost down since it was aluminum and wouldn't corrode, etc. This rig will have a healthy cooler on it too so the heat dissipation issue will be addressed. I tried to pick a color that would show any leaks easier too so used a machine grey.

Is there going to be any mount or support for the T-case, or is it just gonna hang off the tranny?

Matt, I whole heartedly support the painting of the transmission case as well. When I worked at a GM dealer there was a tech service bulletin that mentioned painting the case to help seal against case porosity seepage... not cracks, just porosity problems that they had in the early 80's...since then I've always painted, but not necessarily with a sealer type of paint...mostly for cosmetics!

Matt what are your thought for/against t case supports? I just broke my 400 housing and there is so many opinions on it that it's annoying:doah:

It's looking good man. I've been eyeballing their 4 seat for a while now and have been collecting most of the parts.

there is a 4 seat kit for sale in the classifieds on pirate right now, might save a little coin.

Drew at Goatbuilt designed a machined aluminum rear atlas support that looks pretty bling. I might see what that goes for, I'll find a picture here shortly. Some say not to run then because if a crossmember bends it will cause a break too. I feel fairly confident in these crossmembers being as they are 1.75x.120 internally sleeved with 1.5x.090 plus the skid underneath.

edit: here it is:

The motor mounts are poly as well right?

I had my engine supported by the DIY4X mounts, with the trans case/and doubler setting on a milkcrate at the output of the doubler, the weight eventually collapsed the milkcrates so the only thing supporting the whole weight was the engine poly mounts....the doubler output probably dropped 15" or so but the engine mounts never broke and was suspending that amount of weight.
So I think even if you do slightly bend one of those crossmembers under the t/c the engine would move the amount without cracking the trans case.

Got the interior stuff in today. Dash was back-ordered. As soon as seats get here I can install the orbital/ steering column and pedals.
