My 1990 K5 Blazer build

Guy on here somewhere put a more modern seat in his...Blazer or Burb...recently. Had to redo all the floor mounts and beef them up. Worked well but not bolt in.

I know 496truck has 02 silverado bench seat with flip up console up front in his.He sounds like who you talkin bout to me. I've talked to him and found out what all was needed for that but was curious about the tahoe rear seats.

No, someone put a rear seat in out of a newer vehicle with a bench that had integrated shoulder straps.

Put the mounting buckets and underbody bracing in from the newer vehicle along with beefing up the floor all around it.

It's cool.

I cringe when I see guys installing shoulder belt equipped modern seats into our 21+ year old trucks that already have weak floor boards without doing much to reinforce the floors.

I agree, its like the seats in the fighter jets, the bolts will rip through the floor and out goes the seat with you strapped to it. Reinforce the floors for your own safety

I'm a mechanical designer with metal fab experience, I'll make this safe. :)

No real updates, between working on my term paper, spending time with my wifey and kids, and working full time all I've had time to do is look at pretty pictures online. :haha:

I am picking up that seat this weekend though. I am thinking about taking the old seat and mounting it behind the old seat facing backwards, that way when we hit the beach this summer we can take a couple more people.

OK, I have an official plan for my truck, this is my 1year plan. My ultimate plan involves a D60 and 14bff, but that's not realistic for now.

Currently my truck has:
Stock 10-bolts, mismatched gears, rear gov-lock sounding like bag of rocks.
Saggy 4" suspension lift
3" body lift
(with this supposed 7" of lift my truck sits a bit lower than my friend's 6" lift)
ProComp black rockcrawlers
315/70/17 BFG All-Terrains

My plan is:
14bsf rear that I got from a friend, regeared to 4.56. Front 10-bolt converted to 8-lug and regeared to 4.56 (already have gears).
6" Tuff Country front lift springs, zero rate at offset to move axle forward
4" Tuff Country rear lift springs, 2.5" ORD shackle flip.
Recentered Hummer beadlocks
37" military Goodyear radials

I know the 10-bolt and 37s might be pushing it, but I don't plan on any hardcore wheeling with it. Most wheeling in the near future will probably be hitting the beach with my family.

I like your build plan. I will give you one cautionary word tho, about your front axle and 37" tires.

I don't know how heavy the 37s are compared to my Super Swamper SS 38s on 16" wheels, but my experience has been that the 1/2 ton front axles will make you replace ball joints at least once a year with large tires. Even with installing MOOG style joints. I suspect that the military 37s are lighter since they're relatively narrow, but just a heads up!

I'll be selling the body lift when I take it off.

Thanks for the heads up on the ball-joints. I hope that I'll be able to put a beefier axle in the front at some point in the near future, maybe I'll luck out and I'll just replace the axle when it is time to replace the ball joints. :)

Ah, wasn't sure what you intended for it. Seemed like a lot of lift if you already had the body lift on.

Nah, I'm going to ditch it. Never been a big fan of body lifts, and this one just looks goofy at certain angles.

I'd do a 3" body lift on some other vehicles with complicated suspensions and sturdier frames than ours...but no way on ours. 1" ORD and some poly mounts perhaps.

Well, I'm going to hold off on the seat for right now. Realistically with the way the weather is turning so fast and how busy I am, I'm not going to be able to take the top off until Spring anyway. Might as well wait on it and try and use my money for the axle swap and new wheels/tires.

That's pretty much what I was going to do with this seat.

And I also figured out why my 7" of lift (4" suspension and 3" body) sat lower than my friend Lee's 6" suspension. Apparently my truck only has a 2.5" suspension and a 3" body, so really only 5.5" of lift. I cleaned off the rear leafs and found the part number for the Superlift springs, sure enough, 2.5" lift. I was hoping that I had 4" springs so I could just swap out the fronts and do a shackle flip in the rear to get a 6" stance, but looks like I'll be buying both sets of springs. :doah:

A 4" shackle flip and a 2.5" spring lift will give you 6" in the rear, so you'll only need 6" springs for the front.
