My 5.3 swap thread!

Glad you got it going man! I am finally home and was just coming in to check up on ya :D

As for the alternator, you run the brown wire to C2 pin 15 on the PCM or as labled above, hook it up to a resistor and or light bulb with the other end hooked up to a 12V ignition source.

Haven't touched the truck for about a week. Tomorrow I plan on wiring up the alternater properly and trying it out.

Also worth noting is that the VDO temp sender seems to be spot on! Compared it to the scanner as it was running and it was within 5-10* of each other! So, to anyone out there doing the swap, just get the VDO sending unit! It looks just like a stock sender for our trucks but has the 12x1.5 thread on it! Very exciting.

So im thinking about just doing something like this. But im still not sure tho because i think that it will interfier with the radiator hose and fan shroud...

Where the radiator hose goes underneath the intake ,I releaved it a little with a heat gun. Oh, and didn't bother with the stock fan,Windstar fans fit so nice, looking like it came standard equipment[not hard to put in.]

Thanks man! So far im just shooting for making it look stock as possible. So, stuff like the wind star fans i dont think will go on this one. Whenever i put one in a different truck i wont care nearly as much about the factory looks and will probably do exactly like you did.

This is the tube i bought. Looks like all i will have to dick with is cutting off the catch basin thing. Its one of the good ones that dont have the silencer things off of it. Even if its ugly it will look factory!

Running electric fans in this case will look stock. And when run from the ECM they will work like factory stock too.

Just sayin.

You have enough on your plate right now but may be a good upgrade in the future. It'll help your mileage too.

I really doubt this truck will ever get electric fans but other trucks that get the swap probably will.

I will get you a pic of the old B&M fan I have on mine with the stock shroud.
Its what I put in years ago, old 4 core radiator and shroud, then made a mount to hold the fan to the radiator. So with out looking real hard it all looks fartory. Not sure if that fan is even made anymore but I bet you could find one similar.

How's it coming along? I have my computer running electric fans and it's nice and frees up some power too. No issues with mine in the last 1500 miles, well besides the better gas mileage and more power ;)

Looks like you still need to talk to Bow-Tie Overdrives for the tv cable.
Did you make a plug for the EGR or is it GM's just painted?
With the fan in the way, that stock intake looks like the only chioce. Will you put the MAF on the other end?

It's a th400 so good there. No egr plug needed. Newer exhaust and intake. Yea the maf will go in the stock location.

First drive complete! All i did was drive it up and down the street but none the less! Feels good! SUPER LAME video to follow.
