top bar connecting the two rear main tubes



took the top off now cause from hear on out everything else should fit under the top just fine. plus will make it easier to finish weld and paint

Not done yet, more bracing to get done, but I like how it is turning out

Thanks all. I will take a bunch more pics as I start adding some more tubing. I am hoping this weekend I can get a bunch of that done. At this point it is mainly just bracing and styling, so I am hopeful to get it done pretty quick.

Plan to clean some stuff up and throw some paint on it. It isn't perfect, but I really like how everything turned out.
 
The cage looks GREAT! I can't wait to get home so I can see it on something bigger than my phone.
 
That looks killer dude. :woot:

One thing though, if you solid mounted the cage, why are you running rubber body mounts still? Or did I look at it wrong?

I'm not really sure what you are asking. I never have touched my body mounts, nor do I really care about that. I was just trying to tie my cage into the frame for strength all around. Don't really care if the body mounts are in good shape or anything since this is a trail only rig, as long as it's strong is all I really care :D

Your body mounts are what holds the body up. Most of them are in locations that has some sort of ribbing on the body for more support. Now those are doing nothing and your floor flanges are basically holding the body on. Not saying its really a bad thing.... But I would bet you will see cracking of the floor around the cage plates.


IMO it would be better to replace the body mounts with a solid puck if you are doing solid frame tie ins.

Considering how many holes are already in my floor, I don't think I will care too much about some cracking. :laugh: And if it does, I will just weld it up, no big deal. And considering that I didn't lifted the truck up off the body mounts to build the cage, the body mounts will still see at least some function, even if it's small. So I doubt I will see too much of a problem. And this is just a trail rig, no plans for high speed anything so I think it will be fine

I love the cage and THANK YOU for posting all the pics from different angles. Your design is very similar to what I want to do.

Would you call it finished or do you plan to add more? If so, where?

One more pic request; can you take a side shot with the rear seat unfolded? I'm trying to see where the upper C pillar bend is (needs to be) in relation to rear passengers.

Yah like I'm sure you will be fine. Just thought I'd ask.
Turned out really awesome looking. I wish I had access to a 2" die for when I do mine. Looks so much better than 1.75.

I think I am going to add just a few small things. Such as another little support tube at the bottom of the forward angle down tubes (don't know if you can invision that or not) and I think I will have a cross tube that is low behind the front seats that connect each kick bar. I plan to get some lap belts that connect on that tube to get rid of the crappy factory seat belts (probably not going to go full 4-5 point harness since this is just a trail rig). That way you can still get into the back relatively easily.

I will try to get that pic for you soon. I want to paint the whole cage first before putting the seat back in. But once it's in I will get you that pic for reference.

Yeah, I was kinda forced to use 2". I was planning to use 1.75 but the buddy that I borrowed the bender from only had a 2". But now that I have done it, I do think 2" looks a lot better on these full sizes :thumb:
 
Not a crazy update, but wanted to put these pics up before I forgot. These are not really seen but are pretty important for strength:













I want to add just a simple tube that comes down and bolts to the wheel well just to add strength to that middle tube (referencing the last picture)
