My 86 K5 build

Holy cow you've made some serious progress with your truck since I last looked at your build page. Loving your cage, glad to see you went with the 2 inch. I just ordered the tubing for mine so just now getting around to it. Looking good!

Thanks bud. Motivation has never been my problem, it's always time and money :D. Can't wait to see a cage in yours. Every time I look at yours I want 42's real bad. In fact just straight up 42" TSL's is what I have looked at. Where did you get yours at?

Long story, but I lucked out and got them free as a gift. Basically I made a lot of money for a friend by putting a tenant in his office building and he offered to buy them when he saw my truck. He paid ordered it online and I picked them up from 4 Wheel Parts.

I'm honestly thinking of going big to 54's (boggers or MTs) and Rockwells soon though. Long time goal of mine to get into the Top Truck Challenge (like your brother hopefully) and seems that is a must have to compete.

You want to sell me those 42's on the cheap sooner than later :D?

Rockwells are a great way to go. Pretty darn cheap and great aftermarket support nowadays. But I don't think you have to be on 54's to compete. If you watch TTC13, the guy who won was a full size on tons, leafs, and 46" claws. He just drove smart and smooth the whole time (don't even think he won a single event). Most guys on 54's do have great rigs, but don't know how to drive worth a crap. Every year without fail at least 2 people show up with 54's they slapped on, no flex and can't steer em, and also with an untested rig and end up braking/not competing in multiple events. I do think at least 44's would be necessary with the size of holes and everything, but the 54's are such a huge tire and love to break shiz. With the water shortages nowadays in CA, and how the event is looking, I think the 47" LTB would be the most ideal tire.

Once again though, you could sell me those nice looking 42's if you wanted to

You will be the first to know if I do! I haven't considered 47 inch LTBs, but now that I look at them, may be a happy medium and can keep my axles.

Not only could you keep your axles, but your rims too as they make a 47x15x16.5 LTB. That is the exact tire my brother wants. You may have to beef up the d60 a little (can't remember what you have in yours) such as reid knuckles, cromo's all the way throughout and some other misc goodies, but a heck of a lot easier than stuffing the huge rockwell pumpkin under your chevy!

Plus, then I can get your 42's.....can you tell I really want 42's? :haha:

47's are definitely massive, cool tires - they look like they're made for swamp running. They've also got way more tread than a 54 (which are fairly shallow for such a big tire). I would love to run 47's but they're just too big IMO without a lot of cool parts (knuckle, chromo's, etc).

Figured I would bump this up with a small update. First off, I purchased some G-Force 4 point harnesses since their 4 point harness was cheaper than some simple lap belt set up's. For the time being I took out the crappy factory seat belts and installed just the belt portion bolted in the factory locations. When I get after market seats at some point, I will install the shoulder straps too. But for now this is still an upgrade from the factory belts.

Also, decided it was time to do one of the last real upgrades my d60 needed. Did the 35 spline upgrade. I decided I didn't want to spend the money on chromo's since they are freaking expensive. Considering mine is just a trail rig with no high HP, I went with replacement d70 stub shafts off amazon for a pretty good price. At the same time got some spicer ujoints to replace the current ones

Didn't take many pics of doing this b/c there are about a thousand threads showing this, but at least a couple pics to prove it was done :D

New joints

Decided to go with ORD's drive flanges. I like how you can remove the gear and put the cap back on and keep driving if you want to. Don't know if I would ever do that, but nice to have the option

Bling bling

This was done as a upgrade to handle bigger tires which will happen at some point this year

Nice work. I'm a fan of the 35 spline spicer upgrades. I've been thinking about doing them for awhile now too. Just to add a little beef.

With the way I drive, and only with the 38.5's, I bet the 30 splines would have gone for a while longer, but like I said, I plan to go to a bigger tire soon, so thought this would be a good upgrade to plan for that

Yep, those were my thoughts too. I will rock the 30's until something gives, that way I know what their limits are. I get those 35 spline spicers here at my work for $75 ea.

Decided to go wheeling today with a couple guys at Eagle Rock. Never did we think that on Memorial Day weekend that we would be on a snow run, but that is what this turned into. Not only were we busting through about a foot of snow, but it was snowing on us almost the whole time. It was a really good day.

Got quite a few videos. Sorry, can't embed it, but you can click the link to watch these

At the very beginning of the trail before it started snowing, just messing around on some rocks:

Trying to climb a steep hill (can't really tell from video, but it was steeper) with some rocks mixed in:

This shows as far as we got up:

And a couple lined up shots of all the blazers

I love the look of that blue K5. Could definitely benefit from all the upgrades that you have done to your blazer though . . .

Well, this is one way to go

44x18x16.5 boggers. Bought these off of the blemish website cause they were about $300 less after shipping than any 42" tire I got a quote on. These are a bit more narrow than the normal boggers, but the tread/sidewalls are a lot softer. Interco said they were a "competition tire" so weather that means sticky tire or not, who knows, but they are a lot less stiff than normal boggers.

Next to my 38.5...it may just be because I am use to looking at the 38.5's, but these things look so freaking huge

A little mock up on the rear. There will for sure be some more fender trimming happening
tongue.gif

I did a little mock up on the front too but it was too dark to get a pic. I think I am going to have to get rid of my inner fenders, do a little more trimming, and probably make sure my firewall is smooth, but overall I am digging keeping it low with a huge meaty tire under here. I am going to extend my bumpstops in the front but other than that I am going to just run it for a little bit. The only thing I am a little worried about is my gearing, but I think it will be "ok" for a little while and then I might regear my axles to 5.13's or 5.38's. Oh, and the 38.5's are now for sale in case anyone on CK5 is interested, get in contact with me
