My Build UPDATE---lots of pictures--2/1/2010

the mounts are I believe poly bushings in a piece of tube welded to some square stock then a flat plate that's bolted to the frame

This is how I've been spending few nights. but I've got alot done.

I haven't got as much of the list done as I would have liked but the priority has been to get it drivable to get on the trailer and then it's time for tube work.

the doubler is in along with the shafts. They're pushing it on travel but I only need them to hold up 1 trip. I had to grind quite a bit off the front CV but it looks good to go. The rear I'm a little worried about how much slip is left in the yoke that will be getting changed for sure.

Got the front shocks on. they are 15in travel i have about 7in showing in the pictures on flat ground.

The rears need to wait to be mounted once the cage goes in. I'm gonna mount them off a bar on the cage becasue as you can see in the stock location I only get about 3in up travel.:doah:
img5699nc5.jpg

Motors wired and plumbed. Still won't fire. I can get it to pop with gas down the carb but I'm not getting anything at the pump.
img5695nk1.jpg

not a whole heck of alot of room for the fans but.....
img5692zl9.jpg

....I squeezed them in there. we'll see if they make contact with any motor twist, if so I'll have to put a puller fan on the front instead and get rid of the windstars. and also fabed up a mounting box for the battery.
img5709ed9.jpg

From there went to work on the inside of the cab.
img5693gn4.jpg

everything shifter-wise is good to go. and yes I know the trans shifter is really forward but like I said this is just to get it on and off the trailer. It will get permanently mounted to a center point in the cage.
img5704go2.jpg

then I had this mess to deal with. I'm lost on the wiring part so I had a friend come by and give me a crash course.
img5705bg8.jpg

made a temp exhaust for it....I really gotta get it running. just with the 3 seconds I can make it run it sounds AWESOME!

And I ended the day with this

alot of this will get done tomorrow. I had to put off the fab stuff today after my grinder crapped out on me. But I'll borrow one from work tomorrow and see if I can get that stuff done.

looks like you're getting a lot of work done, good job bro.:waytogo:

i read about halfway through your 2 lists, so i'm not sure, but was getting it smogged part of either list. how are you planning on smogging it? what year was the caddy engine? (hopefully newer than '77).

It actually looks like a truck now. I've got to finish the wiring on the lights. It's getting exhaust monday or tuesday. Then tube work and interior after that.

I had planned to have ti for KOH and then it's first real trip for TDS but plans have changed and I can't make either event:(

anyways a couple current pictures

got rid of the hood springs and went with pins instead for a removable hood. I'm either adding a handle on the underside or cutting out the cross supports and using just the skin. I can get it on and off by myself but it's a pain in the ass so I need it a little lighter and less awkward.

and as close to a truck as it's been in years.
img5733.jpg

I did a little test drive yesterday and found some problems with the truck.

1.) my oil pressure gauges is pegged. it was working fine and when I saw it yesterday it was pegged at 80, even when the truck was off. it's a brand new gauge and sender unit. the only thing I found was there was a little oil dripping out of the sending unit where it's coming out of the block.

2.) the brakes won't hold the truck in low. In high it's fine. As soon as I put it in low 2wd the front brakes with hold and the rears will spin. then in front low the rears hold and the fronts spin. and if I'm in all 4 low I can't hold the truck with the brakes. I'm running a 203/205 doubler behind the caddy 500 th400 trans. stock brake booster and master, stock dana 60 brakes and I have the caddy disc brakes in the rear. what could I do to get some stopping power.

3.) I don't seem to be getting a charge on my battery. The alternator is good. I've got 2 wires coming out of it where do those need to be wired to? I'm running an optima yellow top and a battery disconnect so there shouldn't be a drain when it's off.

1) A leak shouldn't peg the oil pressure gage. It should cause it to read low if anything.

2) Try hydroboost?

3) What is your battery voltage with the engine off and with it on? It should be something like 12.7 off and 13.5 on.

ok atleast got one of the list. the oil pressure gauge was just stuck on the wrong side of the needle. a few taps and it was working fine.:doah:

still have to deal with the brakes, the battery draining, and now the tranny isn't shifting right.

The cage is finally going in. Been spending some long nights at a friends house for a few weeks. the main structure is in, along with rock sliders, and the main seat bars. Still need to make some seat mounts and the "x" structure/belt bar in the B-pillar area, gussets, rear shock mounts, and of course a few hours of finish welding everything. And whatever else we've forgot

The entire cage is 2in .120 wall DOM. It's all welded and mounted directly to the frame. All the body mounts have been removed and now are tube with 1/4" plate sandwiching the body

you know the saying: if you have to ask...you can't afford them:haha::haha:

Nope, no backseat. That area is gonna be taken up with a spare tire and tool box, then what ever other spare parts I can squeeze in there.
